DuBois Sweeps D9 3A Track and Field Titles Powered by Janney Montgomery Scott in Clarion

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – It was a great day for DuBois at the District 9 Class 3A track and field championships, as the boys and girls teams both edged St. Marys for the team titles.

DuBois finished with 87.33 points on the girls’ to 82.33 for the Dutch, while the boys saw DuBois edge St. Marys, 89-75.

Nicklas won all three of her events, the shot put (32-3 ¾), discus (102-8), and javelin (116-0).

“I knew I had some competition, so I wanted to make sure I got all the technical stuff right. It feels really good and I’m really happy about it.”

Friar, meanwhile, won the 400 in 52.67 and the 3200 in 10:07.25, was on the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams that finished second.

“The two-mile I had only run once but I came into it thinking I was going to win and that’s what happened,” Friar said. “Honestly, during the summer I did a lot of training for cross country and after cross country season I really started focusing on the 400.”

There were three Pa Milesplit elite performances and two of them came in the same event, with St. Marys’ Gabby Pistner (2:14.30) edging DuBois’ Morgan Roemer (2:15.07) in the 800.

The other elite performance came in the 300 hurdles, with St. Marys’ Morgan Caskey winning with a time of 46.22.

It was a big day for Roemer, who also won the 1600 (5:27.83) and 3200 (11:31.49).

Also helping DuBois to the team title on the girls’ side with first-place finishes were Nicole Wells in the 400 (1:00.87), Madelyn Crabtree in the high jump (4-9, fewest misses), Peyton Grimm in the long jump (16-6) and Lauren Stroka in the triple jump (35-4 ½).

St. Marys also got victories on the girls’ side from its 4×400 relay team of Lucia Hayes, Caskey, Mary Defillippi, and Pistner (4:05.83) and its 4×800 team, which has dominated all season doing so again with a time of 9:45.49 (the team of Hayes, Defillippi, Christina Frontz and Pistner). Maddy Whitman also won the pole vault, clearing nine feet.

“Our relays came out really strong,” Nicklas said. “And the guys did awesome as well.”

            

For the Bradford girls, Abbigail Schleicher won the 100 (13.05) and the 200 (26.94), and Alexia Corignani the 100 hurdles (15.63). The 4×100 relay team of Kelcie Little, Corignani, Emma Swanson, and Madi Cowburn was also victorious with a time of 51.57.

Helping the DuBois boys to victory with first-place finishes were Nathan Kougher in the 100 (11.59) and 200 (23.54), the 4×100 relay team of Harrison Blakeslee, Jaxson Hanzley, Joey Stubbs, and Hunter Hilliard (44.70), Edward Burkett in the pole vault (12-3) and Ja’Reese Stowe in the shot put (41-10).

In addition to Friar, first-place finishers for Bradford included Leo Paterniti in the 1600 (4:31.08) and Chase Wineberg in the high jump (5-10).

For St. Marys, Alex Amador won the 800 (2:00.98), the 4×400 (Nicholas Hayes, Angelo Catalone, James Pistner, Amador, 3:32.26) and the 4×800 (Hayes, Augustus Secco, Braydon Mosier, Amador, 8:46.72) relay teams were also winners. Andrew Field also won the triple jump (40-11).

For Clearfield, Brady Collins won the 110 (16.33) and 300 (42.75) hurdles, while Kai Lynch took the long jump (20-9), Braedon Firanski the discus (129-5) and Isaac Samsel the javelin (142-10).
