District 10 Suspends Former Franklin Track and Field Coach for One Year

CONNEAUT LAKE, Pa. – Citing an “egregious violation,” District 10 voted to suspend former Franklin girls’ track and field coach Bill Keely for one year.

The suspension is the result of Keely falsifying qualifying times for several of his athletes for entry into the District 10 track and field championships, according to the D10 committee, and is backdated from July 1, 2023, until June 30, 2024.

Franklin self-reported the incident and issued a detailed report to District 10. The school then took what D10 described as “swift” action, and Keely is no longer employed as the district’s track and field coach.

“We accept the report of the Franklin administration regarding the incident,” District 10 Chairman Pete Iacino said. “The report was very detailed.”

District 10 committee member Jim Come asked for clarification that the action taken would be against Keely only, not the school.

“I just want to make sure that we’re taking action against the coach, not the school,” Come said.

The committee chairman clarified that indeed is the case.

“We accept the report of the Franklin administration regarding the incident,” Iacino. “We will take no further action against Franklin itself.”
