D9 1A Hoops: Third-Quarter Run Helps Cameron County Beat Union to Advance to D9 Semifinals

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Using a 13-2 third-quarter run, Cameron County pulled out a 52-39 win over visiting Union in the District 9 Class 1A boys’ semifinals.

The fourth-seeded Red Raiders (21-4) led 28-24 at halftime after Josh Beer hit a 3-pointer at the horn.

Union (12-11), the fifth seed, got back within two, 28-26, early in the third quarter before Cameron County went on the game-deciding run that included a 3-pointer from Ryan Shaffer with four minutes to play in the quarter that put the Red Raiders up nine, 35-26.

Shaffer had a game-high 20 points for Cameron County with Josh Smith adding 19.

                                      

Trey Fleming led Union with 13 points with Dawson Camper adding eight points and seven rebounds. Owen Bish and Hayden Smith each chipped in with seven points.

Cameron County will face top-seeded Elk County Catholic in the semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, at St. Marys High School.

Union’s season isn’t over. The Golden Knights will take on the winner of Monday’s fifth-place consolation semifinal game between Northern Potter at DuBois Central Catholic at a time and site to be determined on Thursday, Feb. 29.
