Cranberry Claims Final KSAC Playoff Spot; Coudy Wins NTL; Sharon Tops Reynolds; Corry Still Unbeaten (Oct. 12 VB Recaps)

SENECA, Pa. – With the final KSAC playoff sport on the line, Cranberry used a heavy dose of Ayanna Ferringer and Sarah Schoch to beat visiting Keystone, 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-22, 25-22).

With the win, Cranberry secured fourth place in the KSAC regular season and a spot in the upcoming KSAC playoffs being held Oct. 17 and Oct. 18 at PennWest Clarion’s Tippin Gym. The Berries will face top-seeded Clarion-Limestone in the semifinals Oct. 17 (Redbank Valley and Clarion will be the other semifinal) with the championship being held Oct. 18.

Ferringer led Cranberry with 21 kills, 15 digs, and four blocks, while Schoch added 14 kills and four blocks.

            

Schoch was at her best in the third set with eight kills helping Cranberry rally in the set for a win, while Ferringer had six kills in the decisive fourth set after recording eight in a first-set win.

Ferringer, who reached 750 career kills in the match, was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match and talked about the victory on the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview

Allie Rembold ran the offense for Cranberry with 24 set assists while adding two kills and two digs, and Reyna Watson had 11 digs and four aces.

Avery Coe also was in on the action for the Berries with five digs and four set assists, Kennedy Stewart added four kills and three set assists, and Jaydn Shumaker chipped in six digs.

                          

Audrey Burrows had 15 kills and 15 digs for Keystone while her younger sister, Katerine, added 10 kills and three aces.

Gwyn Manno was a beast on defense with 29 digs, and Ava Patrick chipped in nine kills and four blocks.

It was Cancer Awareness Night at Cranberry, and it was estimated that over $4,000 was raised.

That included a serving contest before the varsity match where fans could pay $1 for a chance to hit targets and t-shirts to win a prize.

COUDERSPORT 3, AUSTIN 0

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Coudersport secured the NTL title with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 26-24) win over visiting Austin.

Sierra Myers had a team-high 10 kills to go along with one block for Coudy.

Also for the Falcons, Savannah Myers had nine kills, 11 digs, and seven aces and Madyson Dubots-Angood had three kills and 15 digs.

                        

Isabella Rees had nine kills for Austin with Savannah Horton adding eight kills. Ella Brewer led the defense for the Lady Panthers with 21 digs, and Marah Fowler ran the offense with 22 set assists five adding five kills.

SHARON 3, REYNOLDS 0

SHARON, Pa. – Jamoria Crumby had 26 set assists and six digs to help Sharon keep its strong season going with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-14) sweep of visiting Reynolds.

Ondrea Young led the Tigers’ offense with nine kills while Tay Chester added eight kills and 10 digs and Kylee Hasan chipped in six kills and nine digs.

Emmalie Yobe also had five digs for Sharon.

         

Annie Loposky had 10 set assists, seven digs, and four blocks for Reynolds while Alaen Tapp and Lana Wolfe each added three kills > Trtaps also had four digs.

Rylee Gearhart led the Raiders offense with seven kills while adding eight digs, and Kylie McAdoo had a team-best 14 digs.

NORTHERN POTTER 3, CAMERON COUNTY 1

ULYSSES, Pa. – Haylee Chapman had 13 digs, and Kayden Brown had 11 digs, both surpassing 500 in their careers, as Northern Potter earned a 3-1 home win over Cameron County (22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-22).

Chapman also had 10 kills and two blocks and Brown had 14 set assists, five kills, and one block.

Also for NoPo, Molly Cady had five digs, eight kills, and three blocks, while Sarah Risser had 20 digs and five kills, and Kayla Hyde had 10 digs, five assists, five kills, and one block.

Ava Hilfiger had nine kills, Caitlyn Palumbo eight, and Elise Bresslin four for Cameron County.

COCHRANTON 3, IROQUOIS 0

ERIE, Pa. – Brooklyn Needler had eight kills and five aces as Cochranton beat homestanding Iroquois, 3-0 (25-10, 25-6, 25-17).

Maggie Jackson ran the offense with 18 set assists for Cochranton, while Danielle Hoffman had seven kills and eight digs, Claire McCartney six aces and Macie Williams five aces.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 3, ST. MARYS 0

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Elk County Catholic made the quick trip across town and beat St. Marys, 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-19).

Tori Newton had 16 kills and four aces to lead the unbeaten Lady Crusaders, who are ranked third in the state in Class 1A by the PVCA, while Reagan Bauer added 11 kills and two aces.

Also for ECC, Payton Newton chipped in seven kills, Ashlynn Schutz had three blocks and four aces, and Kiri Emmert ran the offense with 31 set assists.

REDBANK VALLEY 3, VENANGO CATHOLIC 0

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Mylee Harmon led a balanced effort with nine kills and four aces as Redbank Valley beat visiting Venango Catholic, 3-0 (25-6, 25-14, 25-14).

Also for the Lady Bulldogs, Kira Bonanno had six kills, Ady Bond six aces, and Elaina Carrico eight aces and 16 set assists.

MAPLEWOOD 3, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 0

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS, Pa. – Elizabeth Hunter had eight kills and three blocks to help vsiting Malewood to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-16) win over Cambridge Springs.

Offensively for the Tigers, Savannah O’Hara also had six kills, Bree Neely five kills and four aces and Maggie Means 22 set assists.

Neely and Means had nine digs each, while Lexy Potosky had 10 digs.

SAEGERTOWN 3, SHARPSVILLE 0

SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – Brywn McLaughlin led a balanced effort with eight kills as Saegertown beat visiting Sharpsville, 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-11).

Maggie Triola had seven kills for Saegertown, while Lyndzee Amory had six, Paige Smith five and Lindsey Greco and Alyssa Arblaster four each.

Greco ran the offense with 25 set assists, while Arblaster had six digs, Amory, McLaughlin, and Smith two blocks each, while McLaughlin had three aces and Arblaster two.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 3, BROOKVILLE 0

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Ciara Toven had 13 kills and one ace as Punxsutawney went on the road and beat Brookville, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21).

Also leading the Chucks were Danielle Griebel (26 set assists, two aces, four kills, five digs), Kinsee Barnett (eight kills, two aces, nine digs), Zoey Hoover (four kills, three blocks), Ava Bodenhorn (five digs, one ace) and Brynn Herger (eight digs).

For Brookville, Whitney Guth had five kills and one ace, Eden Wonderling four kills, Julie Monnoyer five kills and one block, and Averi Pangallo four kills.

OTTO-ELDRED 3, SMETHPORT 0

SMETHPORT, Pa. – Carrie Drummond had a double-double of 14 kills and 15 digs while adding two aces, as it was a clean sweep (25-15, 25-11, 25-15) for Otto-Eldred on the road at Smethport.

Kate Rhinehart added 14 kills and two aces for the Lady Terrors, while Anna Schuessler ran the offense with 27 set assists.

Elizabeth Hungiville had seven kills, two blocks, and two aces for Smethport with Jaiden Goodman adding six digs and a kill. Madi Faes ran the offense for the Lady Hubbers with 14 set assists and completed a double-double with 11 digs. She also added two aces.

MEADVILLE 3, HICKORY 0

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Emma Parks continued her strong play with 21 kills to lead Meadville to a 3-0 (25-6, 25-20, 25-7) win over visiting Hickory.

Sydney Holt added seven kills and 16 digs for the Bulldogs, while Kendall Mealy had 17 digs and Chae Kennedy 10 digs.

Elliott Schleicher ran the offense for Meadville with 33 set assists.

JOHNSONBURG 3, BROCKWAY 0

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Marlee Cherry had 13 kills and six blocks to help pace Johnsonburg in a 3-0 home win over Brockway (25-10, 25-14, 25-17).

Kiera Marciniak added 12 kills and three blocks for the Ramettes, while Zoey Grunthaner had five aces.

Cadence Brechtel ran the offense for Johnsonburg with 33 set assists.

Lauren Rendos had six kills and five digs for Brockay with Sophia Schmader adding four kills and nine digs and Kalina Powell nine set assists and three digs.

PORT ALLEGANY 3, GALETON 0

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Isla Lehmier recorded her 500th career set assist at the beginning of the third set and finished the night with 29 assists, six digs, and three kills to help homestanding Port Allegany to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-17) win over visiting Galeton.

The 500th assist was put down by her sist, Lily Lehmier, who had seven kills and five aces, while Kayleigh Dowell led the Lady Gators with nine kills while chipping in six digs.

Jenna Renner also had eight kills, four aces, and two blocks for Port Allegany, and Ella Moses added six kills, 11 digs, three aces, and two blocks.

Brynn Evens served a pair of aces and finished with two kills in the win as well.

MCDOWELL 3, GENERAL MCLANE 0

ERIE, Pa. – Ana Fetzner had 10 kills to help McDowell to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16) home sweep of General McLane.

Gabby DeLuca added seven kills while Chase Rech had 17 digs.

Halle Guentner ran the offense for the Trojans with 23 set assists while adding eight digs.

Ellah Beachly and Riley Amory each had 12 digs for General McLane while Eva Kyanvash added nine digs and two aces and Cassidy Swain had five kills.

MERCYHURST PREP 3, GIRARD 0

GIRARD, Pa. – Oliva Kulyk had 11 kills and three aces to help visiting Mercyhurst Prep to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-17) win over Girard.

Addica Sperry added six kills and nine digs in the win while Da’Zhana Jordan had six kills, six digs, and two aces, and Mya Fuller had eight digs.

Julia Seth ran the offense for the Lakers with 24 set assists.

Laurel Counasse had 11 digs and nine set assists for Girard with Alivia Montgomery adding six digs.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 3, KARNS CITY 0

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Kaylee Smith ran the Clarion-Limestone offense with 23 set assists to go along with three aces in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-16) win at Karns City that secured a perfect regular season for the Lady Lions (15-0), who are ranked ninth in the state in Class 1A by the PVCA.

Jenna Dunn had a team-high 14 kills for C-L, while Hannah Beggs and Alyssa Wiant had seven kills each

Ava Fox had four kills, nine digs, two blocks, and two aces for Karns City with Ashley Mauer adding four kills, 10 set assists, and five digs.

Nicole Taylor also had nine digs for the Lady Gremlins, and Leah Wilson chipped in four kills.

FRANKLIN 3, ROCKY GROVE 0

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Katie Boal had 10 kills and two digs as Franklin beat neighboring Rocky Grove on the road, 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-17).

Jennifer Blum had 12 digs for Franklin, while Estella Adams had 13 set assists.

Katie Beggs had three aces and 12 set assists for Rocky Grove, while Abby Cable had six kills, two blocks, and one ace, and Natalee Sloss had two kills and two digs.

DUBOIS 3, BRADFORD 1

DUBOIS, Pa. – Alissa Stevens had 10 kills and nine digs to help DuBois beat visiting Bradford, 3-1 (25-15, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18).

Morgan Pasternak led the Lady Beavers with a 15-kill, 14-dig double-double, while Ava Barnoncik added 13 kills and 10 digs while also recording three aces. Baylee Spinda had 13 digs for DuBois, and Haley Reed ran the offense with 38 set assists while adding six aces, six digs, and four kills.

CONNEAUT 3, GROVE CITY 0

LINESEVILLE, Pa. – Laine Harrington had 13 kills to lead Conneaut to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-22) win over visiting Grove City.

Payten Karastury set up the offense for Conneaut with 29 assists while adding six digs and four aces, while Courtney Vannare chipped in six kills.

Paris Karastury had 25 digs to lead Conneaut’s defense.

Abby Berry had nine kills, eight blocks, 10 set assists, and six digs for Grove City while Brynna Miller added 10 digs, and Jaya Persinger chipped in eight set assists.

MONITEAU 3, A-C VALLEY 0

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Lily Staab had 14 kills to lead homestanding Moniteau to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-16) win over A-C Valley.

Marissa Pry added eight kills and five blocks for the Lady Warriors with Bella Hernandez chipping in five kills and two blocks.

Maddy Dehart had seven kills for A-C Valley with Colleen Verostek adding 11 digs and Lexi Altman seven assists and 11 digs.

Ava Snyder also had three kills and six digs for the Lady Falcons while Malia Page chipped in five set assists and four digs.

JAMESTOWN 3, COMMODORE PERRY 1

JAMESTOWN, Pa. – Behind nine kills and 10 digs from Hannah Hart and nine kills and 12 digs from Madilyn Enterline, Jamestown beat visiting Commodore Perry, 3-1 (21-25, 25-12, 26-24, 25-22).

Emily Enterline ran the offense for the Muskies with 24 set assists while adding seven digs, and Sophia Hart chipped in six kills and five digs.

Also on defense for Jamestown, Alayna Cadman had 10 digs to go with two blocks and Launa Bish added 11 digs. Cadman also had three kills.

WARREN 3, ERIE 0

ERIE, Pa. – Maddy Jones had a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs to lead visiting Warren to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-20) win over Erie.

Alexia Bowers added 10 kills as did Madelyn Nosel while Kylie Fehlman chipped in 11 kills.

Sophie Walker served five aces for the Dragos while adding three digs, and Lindsay Madigan ran the offense with 37 set assists.

KANE 3, DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 2

DUBOIS, Pa. – Mia Anderson had 16 kills and three blocks to help visiting Kane rally past DuBois Central Catholic, 3-2 (25-22, 15-15, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13)

Frankie Ishman added eight kills and five blocks for the Lady Wolves who also got seven kills and 15 digs from Maya Smith and 15 digs from Leah Tigani.

Elizabeth Yasurek ran the offense for Kane with 30 set assists and completed a double-double with 21 digs.

SLIPPERY ROCK 3, WILMINGTON 0

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Avalee Demidovich had 10 kills to lead Slippery Rock to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-20) road win over Wilmington.

Molly Bissell had eight kills for the Rockets while Anora Robare ran the offense with 32 set assists.

UNION CITY 3, HARBOR CREEK 0

UNION CITY, Pa. – Cathryn Reynolds and Angie Hopson combined for 23 kills to lead Union City to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17) win over visiting Harbor Creek.

Reynolds had 12 kills and eight digs while Hopson added 11 kills and three aces.

Teaghanne Murdock contributed five aces, and Alyssa Tingley ran the offense with 23 set assists.

Hannah Smith led Harbor Creek with nine kills with Liz Gunther added five kills. Addison Lucas (11 set assists) and Talon King (9 set assists) ran the offense for the Huskies.

FARRELL, Pa. – Caitlin Stephens had 14 kills and eight set assists to lead West Middlesex to a 3-0 (25-4, 25-17, 25-15) road win over Farrell.

Sloan Mild had seven digs for the Big Red while Avery Hanahan added five kills and seven digs.

Aby Stinedurf helped run the offense for West Middlesex with 19 set assists.

ALEXANDRIA, Pa. – Curwensville went on the road and dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-14) decision to Juniata Valley

Savanna Carfley led Curwensville with nine set assists, while Briah Peoples had four kills, one ace, and one block, Ava Olosky had three kills, Bella Wood two kills, one ace, one block and two set assists, and Kenadee Swatsworth had three kills and one set assists.

SENECA 3, FAIRVIEW 1

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Emily Stafford and Ava Guzowski had five kills each for Seneca, but it was Fairview that earned a 3-1 win, 25-17, 18-25, 25-7, 25-22.

Stafford also had 14 digs for Seneca, while Izzy Wisniewski had 13 digs, Guzowski nine set assists and 11 digs, Sam Harvey 14 digs, and Sarah Brocious 11 digs.

HOLLIDAYSBURG 3, CLEARFIELD 0

HYDE, Pa. – Visiting Hollidaysburg swept Clearfield, 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-23).

Hannah Glunt had 10 set assists for the Lady Bison while Addy Ruiz, Natalie Campolong, and Sam Camopoling each chipped in three kills.

TITUSVILLE 3, OIL CITY 0

TITUSVILLE, Pa. – Titusville took care of visiting Oil City in three sets (25-12, 25-15, 25-22).

Nicki Petro had 10 kills for the Oilers while Chayse Skinner added 13 set assists and Nyssa Hanlon three kills and three digs.
