ST. MARYS, Pa. – Sweeping the singles matches, visiting Brockway went to a 2-0 on the season with a 5-2 win over Elk County Catholic in girls’ tennis action at Benzinger Park in St. Marys Tuesday.
At No. 1 singles, Selena Buttery beat Audrey Dornisch, 6-0, 6-0, while Taylor Rhed took home a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Lydia Anderson. At No. 3 singles, Maci Dixon topped Gina Bush 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, and at No. 4 singles Hannah Zucolotto beat Megan Emmert, 6-2, 6-3.
Brockway also won at No. 1 doubles with Buttery and Rhed defeating Dornisch and Anderson, 8-3.
At No. 2 doubles, Bush and Emmert of ECC beat Dixon and Zucolotto, 8-6, and at No. 3 doubles Melanie Gradle and Josie VanAlstine of ECC beat Leah Trunzo and Emma Miller, 8-0.
VILLA MARIA STARTS SEASON WITH WIN
ERIE, Pa. -Villa Maria swept Erie High School, 5-0, to start its season at the Salata Tennis Complex.
In singles action, Anne Marie Prichard beat Enisa Silkovic, 6-1, 6-3, Sophia Glance topped Sydney Edwards, 6-0, 6-0, Basil Banister beat Mackenzie Bruce, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Abigail Consiglio and Margaret Prichard got a 6-0, 6-1 win and Grace Teed and Sofia Flavo got a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
