Big Run in Second Half Helps St. Marys Hand Rival ECC First Loss; NoPo, Fairview Notch Wins

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Using a 17-1 run that started late in the third quarter and continued into the fourth quarter, St. Marys stunned rival and previously unbeaten Elk County Catholic, 54-46, at St. Marys High School.

The Lady Dutch (8-2 overall, 6-0 AML, 2-0 D9 League) trailed 40-31 following an old-school 3-point play by ECC’s Syndey Alexander with 56 seconds left in the third quarter.

That play ended an 11-2 run by the Lady Crusaders (11-1, 4-1, 3-1).

                                      

At that point, Jayssa Snelick took over the game.

District 9’s leading sorcerer hit two free throws with 28 seconds left in the third to cut the deficit to seven, 40-33, going to the fourth quarter.

Snelick, the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game, then scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to knot the contest at 40.

After Emily Mauer went 1 of 2 from the free-throw line to give ECC one last lead at 41-40, Alexia Schneider drilled a 3-pointer to put St. Marys ahead 43-41.

That triple was followed by a Molly Hanslovan bucket and another 3-pointer from Snelick that had the Lady Dutch ahead 48-41 with 2 ½ minutes left.

                          

An old-school 3-point play by Sami Straub kept ECC hanging around at 48-44, but Snelick went 4 of 4 and Schnieder 2 of 2 from the line down the stretch to seal the victory.

Snelick, who came into the game averaging 22.1 ppg, scored a game-high 28 points including 21 after halftime to help St. Marys rally from a 22-16 halftime deficit.

Schneider and freshman Taylor Gornati each added eight points in the victory.

Lucy Klawuhn and Tori Newton each scored 11 points for ECC with Alexander adding 10.

NORTHERN POTTER 46, CAMERON COUNTY 33

ULYSSES, Pa. – Haylee Chapman and Emma Haynes combined to score 22 points to lead Northern Potter past visiting Cameron County, 46-33, in NTL action,

Chapman led the Lady Panthers (8-5 overall, 5-3 NTL) with 14 points with Haynes adding eight.

Elsie Bresslin had a game-high 15 points for Cameron County (2-9, 2-6).

FAIRVIEW 61, WILMINGTON 37

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Fairview led 31-15 at halftime on its way to a 61-37 win over Wilmington at the Ron Galbreath Classic.

                                   

Bre Heidt led the way for Fairview (9-4) poured in 22 points, 12 of which came in the second half.

Paige Garrity was also in double figures for Fairview with 13 points.

Reese Bruckner had 13 points for Wilmington (8-4).

COUDERSPORT 55, BROCKWAY 19

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Behind 15 points, six rebounds, and five steals from Olivia Fink, Coudersport rolled to a 55-19 road win over Brockway.

Sierra Myers chipped in 12 points for the Lady Falcons (7-3) with Emilee Ruter adding nine tallies and Savannah Myers seven. Hallie Rigas produced a solid all-around game in the victory with five rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a point.

Sophia Schmader had nine points and nine rebounds for Brockway (4-9) while Sophia Morrison added eight points.

UNION/A-C VALLEY 38, COMMODORE PERRY 22

HADLEY, Pa. – A double-double from Maddy Dehart helped Union/A-C Valley snap a 10-game losing streak with a 38-22 win at Commodore Perry.

Dehart had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Falcon Knights (2-10) while Emma Raschiatore added 10 points.

Ava Strauser also had nine tallies in the win with Kya Wetzel and Brianna Schmidt turning in solid all-around games.

Wetzel had four points, four steals, and eight rebounds, and Schmidt chipped in four points, five steals, and seven rebounds.

Marley Meyer and Abbie Eber each scored six points for Commodore Perry (0-12).

NORTHWESTERN 52, GIRARD 24

GIRARD, Pa. – Makayla Presser-Palmer connected for 26 points to power Northwestern to a 52-24 Region 3 win over Girard.

                                  

Presser-Palmer scored 19 of her points in the first half and also pulled down nine rebounds for the Wildcats (10-3 overall, 4-1 Region 3).

Northwestern went on an 18-8 run in the second quarter to build a 27-16 halftime advantage and outscored the Jackets (1-10, 1-4) 25-8 in the second half.

Taylor Stagl added 12 points for the Wildcats and Chloe Yazembiak nine.

Lily Polk ha eight points and Leah Pratt seven for Girard.

FRANKLIN 48, SLIPPERY ROCK 39

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Franklin went on a 17-6 run in the second quarter on its way to a 48-39 non-region win over Slippery Rock.

Jenn Blum paced a balanced Franklin (7-5) effort with 12 points, while Estella Adams and Katie Boal netted 10 each and Jamie Blum nine.

CJ Sabo had 16 points for Slippery Rock (4-9), while Madison Romanovich had 13.

NESHANNOCK 45, WEST MIDDLESEX 41

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – A 23-9 run in the second quarter helped lift Neshannock to a 45-41 win over West Middlesex in the Ron Galbreath Classic.

Rian Ownes paced a balanced Neshannock effort with 14 points, while Nina Medura scored eight, and Sophia Bonner and Hunter Newman added seven points each. The Lancers were 14-of-18 from the free-throw line.

Caitlin Stephens connected for a game-high 19 points for the Big Reds and Sloan Mild scored 13.
The win was the second this season for Neshannock over Hickory, with the first coming 60-58 in overtime on Dec. 27.
