Ayers Scores 4 TDs in Coudy Win; O-E Rallies; Keystone Gets 1st Win; Port A. too Much for Brockway (D9 R2/3 Recaps)

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Gavyn Ayers scored a pair of late touchdowns to lift Coudersport to a 26-14 win over visiting Cameron County.

In a game that was scoreless at halftime, tied at six at the end of three quarters, and tied at 14 in the fourth quarter, it was a 1-yard touchdown run in the final period from Ayers that put Coudersport ahead 20-14.

Ayers then sealed the victory when he returned a Maddox Baughman interception 54 yards for a touchdown.

That was part of a four-touchdown day for Ayers, who tied the game at six in the third quarter on a 74-yard touchdown run and then gave Coudersport its first lead, 14-6, on a 27-yard scoring jaunt in the fourth quarter.

            

Malakai Zucal tied the game at 14 for the Red Raiders with a 3-yard touchdown run before Ayers took over for Coudersport.

Ayers had a monster game rushing 11 times for 122 yards and three touchdowns while going 8 of 20 passing for 124 yards and an interception and returning the interception for a touchdown.

Jackson Moss caught four passes for 109 yards and added seven tackles as did Danny Vanvladricken for the Falcons. Viggo Brown had a team-high eight stops and also intercepted a pass.

Zucal accounted for 250 yards of total offense for Cameron County rushing 19 times for 73 yards and a touchdown while catching seven passes for 163 yards and going 2 of 3 passing for 14 yards.

Lathan Reed, who ran nine times for 56 yards, also scored on the ground for the Red Raiders, giving Cameron County a 6-0 lead in the third quarter.

                          

Baughman was 14 of 28 passing for 229 yards and two interceptions, while Kolby Shepard had three catches for 46 yards and Jakeb Narby four catches for 34 yards.

Landon Farren made eight tackles for Cameron County while Narby had four tackles and an interception.

OTTO-ELDRED 42, ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 21

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Down 15 at halftime, visiting Otto-Eldred scored 36 unanswered second-half points to beat Elk County Catholic, 42-21, at Dutch Country Stadium in St. Marys.

The Terrors trailed 21-6 at the break but took a 22-21 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Shene Thomas’s 10-yard touchdown catch from Shane Magee followed by Hunter App’s 2-point conversion run got Otto-Eldred within seven. 21-14, and then Magee hit Thomas with a 62-yard strike and App ran in the conversion to give the Terrors the lead.

The Magee-Thomas duo was at it again at the start of the fourth quarter, this time from five yards away to make it 28-21, and then App scored on runs of 70 and 13 yards to set the final score.

Magee finished the night 17 of 25 for 242 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception with Thomas catching six passes for 99 yards and three scores. Magee also ran for a touchdown and picked up 72 yards on eight carries.

App ran 16 times for 172 yards and two touchdowns.

Charlie Geci and Noah Cherry each had rushing touchdowns for ECC with Cherry rushing 18 times for 33 yards while catching two passes for 41 yards and Geci rushing three times for five yards and going 7 of 10 passing for 99 yards and three interceptions.

                        

The Crusaders also scored on a 30-yard interception return by Cherry.

PORT ALLEGANY 29, BROCKWAY 7

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Using a punishing brand of football, Port Allegany beat Brockway, 29-7, in a rematch of the 2022 District 9 Class 1A title game at Varischetti Field in Brockway.

Port Allegany ran 43 times for 219 yards with Peyton Stiles doing much of the punishing rushing 20 times for 149 yards. Stiles, who had five tackles, also had an interception late in the game that helped seal the victory, one of four interceptions for the Gators against Brockway quarterback Brayden Fox.

Stiles, who also caught three passes for 48 yards, was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game and talked about the win on the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview.

One of those was returned 39 yards for a touchdown by Aiden Bliss late in the second quarter giving Port Allegany a 21-7 halftime lead.

The Gators built a 14-0 lead on a 1-yard Nick Wilfong touchdown run and a 13-yard Tristan Kiser scoring run on a fourth-down reverse play on the first play of the second quarter.

         

Brockway answered back with a 21-yard Fox to Blake Pisarcik touchdown pass.

The Rovers then had a chance to tie the game or take the lead, but Bliss’ interception and return with 4:12 left in the half put Port Allegany up two scores.

The Gators then put the game away with 4:15 to play when Bliss scored on a 1-yard run.

Bliss ran 15 times for 79 yards and made 11 tackles. He was also 1 of 1 for 35 yards.

Julian Kaple and Nick Wilfong also had interceptions for the Gators.

Jendy Cuello ran 13 times for 99 yards for Brockway while Fox was 21 of 30 for 96 yards, a touchdown, and four interceptions.

Madox Decker had five catches for 42 yards and Pisarcik had 10 for 40 yards and the touchdown.

Peyton Stiles, Port Allegany

UNION 40, KANE 0

KANE, Pa. – Logan Skibinksi scored three touchdowns as Union/A-C Valley rolled past Kane, 40-0, in Kane.

Skibinksi started the fireworks for the Falcon Knights by returning the opening kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown and then added first-quarter scoring runs of 4 and 36 yards helping Union/A-C Valley to a 20-0 lead at the end of 12 minutes.

Owen Bish then found the end zone on a pair of runs that couldn’t have been more opposite to get the lead to 33-0 at halftime.

First, Bish scored on a 92-yard run to make it 26-0, and then he scored from a yard out to make it 33-0.

Aidan Fox’s 80-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter put the Mercy Rule into action.

Bish ran for a game-high 1148 yards on 10 carries with Skibinski adding 73 yards on six carries while also catching a pass for six yards.

Bordy Dittman was 5 of 11 passing for 76 yards with completions to five different receivers. Fox had one catch for 25 yards and Easton Wingard had one for 20 yards while also running twice for 23 yards.

Luke Wilson led the Falcon Knights on defense with 11 tackles while COlbin Elliott had eight tackles and an interception, one of three interceptions for Union/A-C Valley.

Kane’s stats weren’t available.

KEYSTONE 67, SMETHPORT 15

KNOX, Pa. – Keystone’s offense was firing on all cylinders as they knocked off Smethport for their first win of the season, 67-15.

The 67 points scored by Keystone were more than they had in their first four games combined and were the most points they have scored in a game since an 86-0 win over Sheffield on Sept. 12, 2020.

Eli Nellis, meanwhile, accounted for 117 yards on 12 carries and four touchdowns on the ground and also had six receptions for 115 yards on his way to Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game honors.

The Panthers spread the wealth, taking a 42-7 halftime lead, as Dom Corcetti scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and also threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Drew Keth.

“This feels really good,” Nellis said during the Cole Orthodontic Associates Player of the Game interview. “We knew we had to win this one if we have any shot of coming back and making the playoffs.”

Jacob Henry also scored on a pair of first half touchdown runs for Keystone.

In the second half, Jorge Reyes scored on a 15-yard touchdown run, while Nellis scored on runs of 38 and 10 yards and Keth capped the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run.

Corcetti was 12-of-15 for 214 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers, while Keth had four receptions for 70 yards.

Jonah Ganoe finished with 86 yards on 13 carries for Smethport, while Jack Sherry threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Mason in the first half for the Hubbers.

Eli Nellis, Keystone

REDBANK VALLEY 65, RIDGWAY 6

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Scoring 58 points by halftime, Redbank Valley routed Ridgway 65-6.

Six different players scored the eight first-half touchdowns as quarterback Braylon Wagner threw for 204 yards with four scoring strikes to Ashton Kahle for 77 yards, Jaxon Huffman for 4 yards, Mason Clouse covering 38 yards and Ashton George for 9 yards. Wagner also had a 41-yard TD run in the first quarter.

Drew Byers ran for a 14-yard TD while Mason and Owen Clouse both returned punts for touchdowns in the first quarter, 70 and 66 yards respectively. Kahle intercepted two passes.

Huffman threw a 12-yard TD pass to Rylan Rupp for the Bulldogs’ only second-half points. Rocco Allegretto ran for a 9-yard TD for the Elkers in the fourth quarter.

BUCKTAIL 74, SHEFFIELD 42

RENOVO, Pa. – A school-record passing performance wasn’t enough for Sheffield in a 74-42 loss at Bucktail.

Colby Barr threw for 427 yards going 23 of 48 with six touchdowns and an interception for the Wolverines, but a 46-point first half by the Bucks was too much to overcome.

Bucktail led 30-7 at the end of the first quarter and 46-28 at halftime.

While Sheffield was gaining chunks of yards through the air, Bucktail went to the ground gaining 428 of its 586 yards on the ground.

That included a pair of 100-yard rushers in Tanner Pettingill and Braylon Fantaski with Pentingill rushing 12 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns and Fantaski running seven times for 100 yards and two scores.

Brody Pentz added a rushing score (3 carries, 61 yards) and a passing score (4 of 10 for 158 yards) for the Bucks with Brian Dwyer also scoring twice on the ground (3 carries, 57 yards) and Brett Mason (4 carries, 38 yards) and Will Steele (1 carry, 2 yards) also scoring with their feet.

Fantataski added a 78-yard touchdown catch and had two grabs for 86 yards while Steele caught one pass for 61 yards.

Hayden Holden and Dylan Hardwick both went over 150 yards receiving for Sheffield with Holden catching eight passes for 169 yards and two scores and Harwick catching 10 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

Holden also ran eight times for 80 yards while Hardick recovered a fumble on defense.

Austin Fiscus added a touchdown catch of 48 yards on his only reception, and Michael Knapp had a TD reception for 45 yards on his only catch.

CLAYSBURG-KIMMEL 56, CURWENSVILLE 20

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – A 39-point second half helped visiting Claysburg-Kimmel pull away from Curwensville for a 55-20 win.

The Bulldogs led 16-0 at halftime but upped the advantage to 29-6 at the end of the third quarter before outscoring Curwensville 26-14 in a high-flying final 12 minutes.

Mason Campagana ran for four touchdowns and threw for two more to lead a 534-yard offensive outburst by Claysburg-Kimmel.

Campagna ran 13 times for 289 yards scoring on runs of 83, 4, 55, and 77 yards while throwing touchdown passes of seven and two yards to Tyler Mowry and Anthony McGeary respectively.

The scoring runs came in the second half and the passes in the first half. He finished the game 6 of 14 passing for 120 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Campgana’s big runs were part of big plays for the Bulldogs who also got a 60-yard Remington Diehl touchdown run and a 20-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Mark Lattieri.

Tyler Dunn threw for a touchdown and ran for a score for Curwensville.

He was 13 of 27 passing for 173 yards with a 54-yard scoring pass to Andrew Pentz and ran 16 times for 84 yards with a 5-yard scoring run. He also threw an interception.

Sammy Gustafson added an 11-yard scoring run for the Golden Tide and ran 16 times for 86 yards.

Pentz had four catches for 101 yards.
