2023-24 YDL Sports Network TapNPay+ Preseason All-District 9 Girls’ Basketball Team

WARREN, Pa. – The 2023-24 YDL Sports Network TapNPay+ District 9 All-District girls’ basketball team is highlighted by seven returning All-District players including three first-team selections.

Headlining the team are the first-team choices from 2022-23, Elk County Catholic’s Lucy Klawuhn, Punxsutawney’s Danielle Griebel, and Redbank Valley’s Mylee Harmon, who led their teams to PIAA playoff berths.

Harmon, a junior, was the second-leading scorer in District 9 a year ago at 21.0 points per game while helping the Lady Bulldogs to an unbeaten regular season, the District 9 Class 2A title, and the second round of the PIAA tournament.

She added 5.6 steals per game, 4.5 assists per game, and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 52.7% from the floor (231 of 438).

Klawuhn, a senior, helped ECC to a second-place finish in District 9 Class 1A and to the second round of the PIAA tournament where the Lady Crusaders lost by four points to eventual PIAA champion Union (New Castle).

She averaged 10.6 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, 2.0 steals per game, and 1.8 assists per game while hitting 62 3-pointers.

                          

Griebel, a senior, helped Punxsutawney to the District 9 Class 3A title.

She averaged 9.1 points, 5.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.0 steals per game.

Joining Harmon, Griebel, and Klawuhn with preseason honors are four seniors – DuBois Central Catholic’s Kayley Risser, Ridgway’s Jenna Kasmerski, Moniteau’s Catherine Kelly, and North Clarion’s Lily Homan.

Riser, who recently announced her intention to continue playing basketball at Thiel next year, averaged 11.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.4 steals, 1.5 assists, and 0.9 blocks per game for the D9 Class 1A third-place finishing Lady Cardinals.

She was a second-team All-D9 selection,

Kasmerski, a second-team selection a year ago, was the third-leading scorer in District 9 in 2023 averaging 16.0 points per game while helping the Lady Elkers to the D9 1A playoffs.

She nearly averaged a double-double by adding 9.2 rebounds per contest and also contributed 3.6 blocks, 2.0 steals, and 1.7 steals per game.

Kelly helped Moniteau to a District 9 Class 2A runner-up spot last year and averaged 15.0 points per game, six in District 9, while also adding 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

She was a second-team All-District 9 choice.

Homan helped North Clarion to a KSAC divisional crown while being named third-team All-D9.

                                   

She averaged 12.0 points, 4.1 steals, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

The preseason All-District team is chosen by the staff of the YDL Sports Network.
