ERIE, Pa. The Villa Maria and McDowell girls’ tennis teams are District 10 champions.
Villa topped Grove City 5-0 in Class 2A, while McDowell earned a 4-1 win over Fairview.
For Villa, Anna Poranski topped Macy Matson in No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-1), while Sophia Glance beat Katie Fang (6-0, 6-1) in No. 2 singles and Basil Bannister defeated Emily Williams in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.
In doubles action, Abby Consiglio and Margaret Prichard were 6-2, 6-2 winners over Cana Severson and Jane Coulter, while Margaret McGovern and Sofia Falvo were 6-1, 6-3 winners over Lillian Conger and Ella West.
In Class 3A, Fairview’s Trinity Fox got the Tigers on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Samantha Becker, but the rest was all McDowell.
Nabiah Bhatti got the Trojans on the board with a win at No. 2 singles, and Maria Minichelli got the win at No. 3 singles.
Both Trojans’ doubles teams – Emma Heinlein and Tia Jain (6-2, 6-2) and Lia Warrior and Rosa Simon.
Villa Maria moves on to face Knoch in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A playoffs, while McDowell has a subregional at DuBois on Saturday.
