CLEARFIELD, Pa. – The winningest football coach in District 9 history decided to call it a career following the 2022 campaign, and what a career it was.

Clearfield’s Tim Janocko announced his retirement this past November after 38 seasons, the last of which saw him get his 300th win and his 16th District 9 titles.

Those are just a few of the numbers that help tell the tale of Janocko’s tenure, a resume that also includes 307 wins, one of just 21 coaches in Pennsylvania High School football history to reach the milestone.

Janocko began his career in 1984 with a Clearfield team he guided to a 5-4-1 mark.

“I have been very blessed,” Janocko said. “We had so many great kids, so many great assistant coaches, so many great people who wanted to be part of the program and who helped the program through the years. I have been blessed to have them be part of my life.”

Overall, Janocko went 307-121-3. His teams 30 postseason games, five PIAA playoff games, had 12 double-digit win seasons, eight unbeaten regular seasons, nine one-loss seasons, and 14 seasons with two or fewer losses. Only four times in 38 years did his team not end with a winning record, and the last 27 teams all had winning records.

His longest stretch of consecutive District 9 titles came from 2010-2015 when Clearfield won six-straight.

Janocko coached his son Andrew, who was the quarterback on multiple District 9 title teams in the 2000s. He also passed the coaching bug onto him, with Andrew currently serving as the quarterbacks coach for the Chicago Bears.

“There is no question that was the most special time in my career,” Janocko said. “We won some championships together, and my daughter was a cheerleader. The whole family was involved with my wife running the concession stand like she did for 30-some years.”
