Soft: Rocky Grove Sweeps DH; Obenrader Does it all for Saegertown; Sharon Plays Long Ball in Win Powered by N. Washington Rodeo

RUSSELL, Pa. – Rocky Grove scored just one run, but it was all Elizabeth Mawhinney needed in a 1-0 win at Eisenhower.

Mawhinney twirled a gem, giving up just two hits without issuing a walk and striking out 12 in seven innings. Mawhinney struck out seven straight over the first three innings.

“My movement and trusting the speed change (allowed me to be effective),” Mawhinney said in the Cole Orthodontic Associates player interview. “I really had to just trust it and go with it.”

The Orioles had 10 hits, but couldn’t break through on the scoreboard until the sixth.

Kaylin Jacoby hit a leadoff double, then advanced to third on Jillian Cratty’s ground out. Ashlyn Tucker followed with an RBI single for the game’s only run.

Jacoby finished with a pair of hits. Emily Rice had two hits, including a double, and Zoe Cresswell had three hits.

Payton Frank and Tracey Jakubczak each had a hit for the Knights.

Frank took the loss, allowing one earned run on 10 hits with four strikeouts in seven innings.

                          

ROCKY GROVE 10, EISENHOWER 4, GAME 2

RUSSELL, Pa. – A 7-run sixth inning lifted Rocky Grove to a 10-4 win at Eisenhower.

The Orioles pounded out seven hits and batted around in the inning. Ashlyn Tucker had two singles, scored a run, and drove in another during the inning.

Eisenhower, playing as the visiting team as this was a make-up game, struck for a pair of runs in the first on consecutive RBI singles from Riley Gafner and Tracey Jakubczak.

Rocky Grove scored one run in each of the first three innings. Kaylin Jacoby hit a leadoff double in the first, then came home on a passed ball. Paige Cresswell drew a 1-out walk and scored on an error in the second, and Jacoby scored on Jillian Cratty’s RBI single in the third to put the Orioles ahead, 3-2.

               

The Knights regained the lead in the fifth. Gafner hit a leadoff single and Jakubczak followed with a double. Alanna Byrd’s RBI single scored Gafner to tie it at 3-3.

With no outs and runners at second and third, Rocky Grove brought Elizabeth Mawhinney-who was stellar in a Game 1 win-on in relief for Cresswell.

One out later, Jakubczak narrowly beat Jacoby’s throw home on Morgan Zaffino’s grounder to short, giving the Knights a 4-3 advantage.

Jacoby had four hits, including two doubles, and scored three times. Cratty and Rae Montgomery each drove in a pair. Tucker, Emily Rice, Mawhinney, and Zoe Cresswell each had two hits.

Mawhinney got the win giving up three hits with no walks and five strikeouts in three scoreless innings. Paige Cresswell gave up four runs, three earned, on 12 hits with a walk and two strikeouts in four innings.

Jakbuczak had three hits, including two doubles, scored a run, and drove in another. Gafner also had three hits, scored once, and had an RBI. Julia Gesing and Sam Childs each had two hits.

Childs gave up 10 runs, six earned, on 15 hits with two walks in seven innings.

SAEGERTOWN 6, MAPLEWOOD 1

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Mikaila Obenrader struck out 19 in a 2-hitter as Saegertown beat Maplewood, 6-1.

            

Obenrader walked just one.

Kacie Mook and Obenrader both homered and drove in two runs each, while Alyssa Arblaster was 2-for-3 with two runs.

Rhinn Post went five innings for Maplewood, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out nine.

SHARON 4, TITUSVILLE 3

SHARON, Pa. – Sharon belted three home runs in a 4-3 win over Titusville.

Maddy Vogan hit a 2-run shot in the fourth. With the game tied 2-2, Lacey Root hit a solo shot in the fifth, as did Mya Bundrant in the sixth.

Vogan got the win, striking out 18 over seven innings on five hits and three runs.

Peyton Gricks had a solo homer for Titusville, while Jordyn Wynn (double) and Gabby Peterson had one RBI each.

Wynn went seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, striking out two and walking one.

SHARPSVILLE 12, LAKEVIEW 0, 5 innings

STONEBORO, Pa. – Lily Palko hit a 3-run home run and drove in a total of four runs as Sharpsville beat Lakeview, 8-2.

Jordan Brest (four innings) and Palko (one inning) combined on a 5-inning no-hitter, with Brest striking out three and Palko one.

Miah Applegarth also had a big day at the plate for Sharpsville, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs, while Haley White was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

CATHEDRAL PREP 11, ERIE 0, 5 innings</strong.

ERIE, Pa. – Madison Simmerman homered and was one of three Cathedral Prep players with two RBIs and Morgan Madura pitched a 5-inning no-hitter in an 11-0 win over Erie.

Paige Simmerman and Alexis Baldi drove in two runs each as well for the Ramblers.

Madura struck out five and walked one.

MERCER 7, WILMINGTON 5

MERCER, Pa. – Pressley Washil drove in a pair of runs as Mercer beat Wilmington, 7-5.

Mackenzie Hackett was also 2-for-4 with an RBI for Mercer, which built a 7-5 lead after two innings on its way to the win.

Angelina Eakman got the win, allowing nine hits and four earned runs over seven innings, striking out 10.

Avery Harland was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Wilmington, including a solo home run. Ava Williamson took the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) in 1 ⅔ innings.

COCHRANTON 2, IROQUOIS 0

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Brooklyn Needler fired a 6-hit shutout as Cochranton beat Iroquois, 2-0.

Needler and Claudia Lippert drove in one run each for the Cardinals.

NORTHWESTERN 12, FAIRVIEW 2, 5 innings

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Courtney Eddy was 2-for-4 with a home run, triple and four RBIs as Northwestern beat Fairview, 12-2 in five innings.

Zoey Johnson got the win, going five innings and allowing two runs on five hits, striking out five.

Olivia Hall was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Northwestern, while Avery Feldman and Ayla Ruland both drove in two runs each.

Taylor Polach was 2-for-3 for Fairview. Carissa Worline took the loss, allowing 12 runs in five innings.

REYNOLDS 17, FARREL 3, 6 innings

FARRELL, Pa. – Lana Wolfe had four RBIs and Julie Wade homered as Reynolds beat Farrell, 17-3 in six innings.

Wade finished 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while Shelby Thomas was 1-for-4 with three RBIs and Savannah Johnson 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Madelyn Diefenderfer got the win, allowing two earned runs in six innings on three hits, striking out 10.

FORT LEBOEUF 7, UNION CITY 5

WATERFORD, Pa. – Ibree Rodgers drove in three runs as Fort LeBoeuf jumped out to an early lead in a 7-5 win over Union City.

Kiernan Skelton was also 3-for-3 with an RBI for Leboeuf.

Skelton got the win, going seven innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits, striking out nine.

Desirae Brown was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Union City. Alissa Leech took the loss, allowing six earned runs in seven innings on 11 hits, striking out four.

HICKORY 13, GROVE CITY 0, 6 innings

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Lydia Hallas homered, hit two doubles and drove in five runs as Hickory beat Grove City, 13-0 in six innings.

Jordyn Hanzelka was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Hickory, while Hallie Miller was 2-for-4 with two run and Madeline Myers also drove in two runs.

Hallas got the win, allowing three hits and striking out six in six innings.
