Sheffield Outlasts Kane; Fort LeBoeuf, Fairview, Hickory, Eisenhower All Get 5-Set Wins (Sept. 7 VB Recaps)

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – In an early-season battle of wills, Sheffield came away with a 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 15-8) win over Kane.

Kassidy Orinko had 22 kills, 24 digs, and seven blocks to earn Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game honors.

“We knew it was going to be a tough competition, but we knew if we put our best foot out there we would be competitive with them,” Orinko said during her Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “Our energy was so high (in the fifth set), our communication (was working), we were swinging hard, and we never gave up on that ball.”

Both teams played evenly through the first three sets, with neither able to go on any extended runs. The Wolves took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-20 win.

Sheffield came back to take the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-22, to grab a 2-1 match lead.

Kane wasn’t about to go away quietly, though, as the Wolves built a 20-9 lead in the fourth set, before closing out the set with a 25-20.

The Wolverines returned the favor in the fifth set, racing out to a 7-2 lead and closing out the match with a 15-8 win.

Madison Connolly had 21 digs and six blocks for the Wolverines, while Kadence Steffan had 29 digs and ran the offense with 30 set assists.

                          

FORT LEBOEUF 3, MCDOWELL 2

ERIE, Pa. – Visiting Fort LeBouef dropped the first two sets before rolling off three straight wins to pick up a 3-2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-12) win over McDowell.

Katelynn Olmstead had a big night for the Bison with 18 kills, 10 digs, and six aces.

Mya Stolz also reached double figures in kills for Fort LeBoeuf with 11, while Riley Emerick added five kills.

Bella Johnson led the Bison with 5 digs, and Ella McGowan chipped in eight digs.

Tess Bellis (13 set assists), Kiernan Skelton (13 set assists), and Mackenzie Galdon (14 set assists) ran the show for Fort LeBoeuf.

Sophia Nestor had nine kills for McDowell with Anna Fetzner adding eight kills and 15 digs. Gabby DeLuca and Ari Bico each contributed six kills, and Rosa Gariepy had five kills.

Chase Rech was a stalwart on defense for the Trojans with 21 digs while also adding five set assists, Tayler Rech had 11 digs, and Josie Plaster contributed 10 set assists.

Halle Guentner ran the offense for McDowell with 24 set assists while also adding nine digs.

FAIRVIEW 3, NORTHWESTERN 2

                        

FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Amelia Pasinski and Maddie Weber combined for 21 kills to lead Fairview to a 3-2 (25-20, 26-28, 23-25, 25-23, 15-7) come-from-behind win over visiting Northwestern.

Pasinski had 11 kills and Weber 10 kills, five blocks, and three aces.

Jenna Shultz and Taylor Palowski paced the defense with 16 digs each and Cora Hirz added 12 digs.

Addyson Greene ran the Tigers’ offense with 32 set assists.

HICKORY 3, GREENVILLE 2

         

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Leah Garm had 12 kills and 11 digs to help Hickory hold off visiting Greenville, 3-2 (25-13, 25-23, 23-25, 17-25, 18-16).

Zamyra Smith added eight kills for the Hornets while Arianna Deblasio had 18 digs.

Bella Multari ran the offense for Hickory with 24 set assists and eight digs.

EISENHOWER 3, ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 2

ERIE, Pa. – Emilie Jones had five kills and two aces to lead Eisenhower to a 3-2 (25-15, 17-25, 15-25, 25-17, 15-7) win over Erie First Christian.

Caroline Smyth added four kills for the Knights.

COUDERSPORT 3, NORTHERN POTTER 0

ULYSSES, Pa. – Sierra Myers had 10 kills and three aces and Emilee Ruter added 13 digs and an ace to help Coudersport to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-14) road win over Northern Potter.

Emily Eckert ran the offense for the Lady Falcons with 22 set assists and added seven digs and two aces.

Kayla Hyde had two kills and nine digs for Northern Potter and Sarah Risser added seven digs and a kills.

SAEGERTOWN 3, MERCYHURST PREP 1

ERIE, Pa. – Behind 16 kills from Brywn McLaughlin Saegertown earned a hard-fought 3-1 (25-22, 25-11, 22-25, 25-23) win at Mercyhurst Prep.

Lyndzee Amory added seven kills and five blocks for the Saegertown with Rhia Parris contributing five kills and eight digs.

Rylie Braymer led the Panthers on defense with 18 digs, and Alyssa Arblaster added eight digs.

Lindsey Greco ran the offense for Saegertown with 34 set assists and also served five aces.

Olivia Kulyk led Mercyhurst Prep with 16 kills and 22 digs, Addica Sperry had a match-best 19 kills to go with 13 digs, and Da’Zhana Jordan added 14 digs.

Julia Seth ran the offense for the Lakers with 39 set assists while also picking up 17 digs, Eva Dvorak had five digs, and Tatum Showalter contributed four blocks.

SHARON 3, MERCER 1

MERCER, Pa. – Tay Chester had 15 kills and five digs to help visiting Sharon to a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20) win over Mercer,

Kylee Hasan added eight kills, nine digs, and six blocks for the Tigers while Ondrea Young and Victorya Blyer each had eight kills and Emmalie Yobe and Kylie Weirick added six digs apiece.

Jamoria Crumby ran the Sharon offense with 40 set assists and added 12 digs.

CRANBERRY 3, MONITEAU 1

SENECA, Pa. – Ayanna Ferringer had 18 kills, nine digs, and seven blocks to help Cranberry to a 3-1 (25-15, 15-25, 25-16, 25-19) win over visiting Moniteau.

Allie Rembold ran the offense for the Berries with 14 set assists while adding two aces, Jadyn Shumaker had eight digs, Lexi Reisinger contributed four aces and three digs, Kennedy Stewart chipped in four aces and four kills, and Avery Cole had four aces and five digs in the win.

Marissa Pry paced Moniteau with eight kills with Davina Pry adding seven kills and three blocks and Sydney Bayless six blocks.

COCHRANTON 3, TIDIOUTE CHARTER 0

TIDIOUTE, Pa. – Brooklyn Needler had eight kills and Claire McCartney six kills to lead Cochranton to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-12, 25-4) win at Tidoute Charter

Maggie Jackson ran the offense for the Cardinals with 17 set assists, while Macie Williams served six aces.

MEADVILLE 3, SENECA 0

ERIE, Pa. – Meadville picked up a 3-0 (25-5, 25-4, 25-19) road win over Seneca behind four kills, seven digs, and five aces from Sydney Holt.

The Bulldogs had 22 aces as a team.

Ava Guzowski had six set assists for Seneca while Lilah Hetherington added five digs

KARNS CITY 3, VENANGO CATHOLIC 0

Ava Fox had six kills, nine aces, and a set assist to help Karns City sweep to a 3-0 (25-4, 25-9, 25-11) road win at Venango Catholic.

Cayley Craig served 12 aces for the Lady Gremlins while Naomi Venesky added three kills and Kendall Ritzert six set assists and an ace.

OTTO-ELDRED 3, CAMERON COUNTY 0

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Carrie Drummond had 16 kills, 12 digs, and three aces to lead visiting Otto-Eldred to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-18) sweep of Cameron County.

Kate Rhinehart added six kills, six aces, and seven digs for the Lady Terrors, while Anna Schuessler ran the offense with 25 set assists.

Ava Hilfiger had 10 kills for Cameron County with Cailtyn Palumbo adding five kills and four digs and Navaeh Spaeth four kills and two digs.

MAPLEWOOD 3, IROQUOIS 0

ERIE, Pa. – Visiting Maplewood got 15 kills and four blocks from Elizabeth Hunter on its way to a 3-0 (25-6, 25-6, 25-11) win over Iroquois.

Madison O’Hara added seven kills and six digs and Megan Woge five aces for the Tigers.

Maggie Means ran the Maplewood offense with 25 set assists and added two kills.

OSWAYO VALLEY 3, SMETHPORT 0

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Olivia Cook had seven kills, six digs, three blocks, and an ace to help Oswayo Valley to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-14) win over visiting Smethport.

Praylan Perkins added six aces, six kills, and two digs, and Makenna Manning had 12 kills, three digs, and five blocks for the Green Wave.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 3, BROCKWAY 0

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Reagan Bauer had 18 kills and two aces to help Elk County Catholic to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-15) win at Brockway.

Tori Newton added 13 kills and Lucy Klawuhn chipped in five kills for the Lady Crusaders.

Kiri Emmert ran the offense for ECC with 42 set assists.

Kali Powell had 24 digs and three aces for Brockway with Lauren Rendos adding nine digs and three kills and Sophia Schmader seven digs and three kills.

Meeca Smith ran the offense for the Lady Rovers with eight set assists.

NORTH EAST 3, GENERAL MCLANE 0

EDINBORO, Pa. – A double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs from Cadence Johnes helped visiting North East to a 3-0 (25-6, 25-11, 25-10) win over General McLane.

Kayla Forsythe added seven kills for the Grape Pickers while Olivia Builger chipped in six digs.

Grace Sanfilippo ran the North East offense with 22 set assists and also added seven digs.

Ellah Beachly had six digs and Morgan Frick had four digs for General McLane.

REDBANK VALLEY 3, OIL CITY 0

OIL CITY, Pa. – A balanced effort helped Redbank Valley beat homestanding Oil City, 3-0 (25-5, 25-21, 25-9).

Izzy Bond had four aces and four kills for the Lady Bulldogs, Mylee Harmon added three aces and five kills, and Taylor Ripple had five aces and four kills.

Elaina Carrico ran the offense for Redbank Valley with 10 set assists.

Molly Mietus had five blocks for Oil City with Libbie Arnink adding 11 digs and Adrianna Cochran two aces.

CLARION 3, KEYSTONE 0

KNOX, Pa. – Clarion moved to 4-0 on the season with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-15) sweep at Keystone.

Hadlee Campbell continued her strong play for the Lady Cats with 16 kills, six digs, and two aces, while Marley Kline had four kills and two blocks, and Alivia Diehl had two kills and three blocks.

Addi Campbell (11 set assists) and Taylor Alston (9 set assists) ran the offense with Alston also recording three blocks and Addi Campbell five aces and four digs. Kelsey Best chipped in three aces for Clarion, which had 16 aces in the match, and Natalie Durish had a team-best 11 digs. Anna O’Toole also added seven digs, two kills, and three blocks.

Ava Patrick had six kills and two blocks for Keystone while Gwyn Manno had 18 digs.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 3, ST. MARYS 0

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Danielle Griebel had 18 set assists and three kills to help Punxsutawney to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-12) home win over St. Marys.

Samantha Griebel led the Lady Chucks with eight kills and 11 digs with Zoey Hoover adding five kills and three aces and Ciara Toven four kills.

Brynn Hergert had eight digs for the Lady Chucks, and Emily Wisnesky added four aces and four digs.

Rylee Nicklas had six kills and two aces for St. Marys with Hannah Ritter adding four kills. Molly Hanslovan ran the offense for the Lady Dutch with 12 set assists.

ROCKY GROVE 3, FARRELL 0

FARRELL, Pa. – Katie Beggs had 16 set assists and two kills to help Rocky Grove to its first win of the year, 3-0 (25-4, 25-10, 25-23), at Farrell.

Abby Cable led the Orioles with four kills and chipped in four aces, Natalee Sloos had three kills and five aces, Olivia Faust contributed six aces and two blocks, Josie Seely had four aces and three kills, and Kaidlynn Burger ended with four digs.

MEYERSDALE 3, CURWENSVILLE 0

MEYERSDALE, Pa. – Despite nine kills from Ava Olosky, Curwensville dropped a 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-22) road decision to Meyersdale.

Brooklyn Price added five kills and four digs for the Lady Tide, while Bella Wood and Briah Peoples each had four kills. Savannah Caqrfley ran the offense for Curwensville with 16 set assists and added two kills and two aces.

TYRONE 3, CLEARFIELD 1

TYRONE, Pa. – Hannah Glunt had 18 set assists but visiting Clearfield fell, 3-1 (25-21, 21-25 25-12, 25-22), at Tyrone.

Gabby Hnery added six kills and Addy Ruiz four kills and three blocks for the Lady Bison.

JOHNSONBURG 3, RIDGWAY 0

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Behind eighth ills and four blocks from Kiera Marciniak Johnsonburg swept visiting Ridgway, 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-14).

Marlee Cherry and Grace Elmquist each added four kills for the Ramettes with Cherry recording three blocks and Elmquist two blocks.

Cadence Brechtel ran the offense for Johnsonburg with 23 set assists and added three aces, two kills, and a block.

UNION CITY 3, ERIE 0

ERIE, Pa. – Angie Hopson had nine kills to lift visiting Union City to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-14) win over Erie.

Cathryn Reynolds added six kills, seven digs, and two aces for the Bears with Cheyenne Cummings contributing five kills and Brooke VanTassel four kills.

Alyssa Tingley ran the offense for Union City with 18 set assists.

WARREN 3, TITUSVILLE 0

TITUSVILLE, Pa. – Warren went on the road and got 11 kills from Madelyn Nosel on its way to a 3-0 (25-8, 25-22, 25-17) win over Titusville.

Maddy Jones added seven kills and four aces for the Dragons who also got six kills from Kylie Fehlman, four kills and 11 digs from Alexia Bowers, and 17 digs from Summer Lucks.

Lindsey Madigan ran the offense for Warren with 27 set assists while adding six digs.

A-C VALLEY 3, FOREST AREA 0

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – On the road, A-C Valley got five kills from Bella Ielase on its way to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-15) win over Forest Area at East Forets.

Lexi Altman added eight aces and seven set assists for the Lady Falcons, while Maddy Dehart contributed three kills.

AUSTIN 3, GALETON 0

GALETON, Pa. – Savannah Horton had seven kills, six digs, and two aces to help Austin move to 4-1 on the year with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-20) win at Galeton.

Kendyl Welsh added six kills for the Lady Panthers with Ella Brewer leading the defense with 13 digs.

Marah Fowler ran the attack for Austin with 23 set assists.

WEST MIDDLESEX 3, KENNEDY CATHOLIC 0

HERMITAGE, Pa. – An all-around strong match from Caitlin Stephens helped West Middlesex to a 3-0 (25-7, 25-22, 25-14) win at Kennedy Catholic.

Stephens had nine set assists, five kills, and six digs in the win.

Emma Mild added five kills and five digs for the Big Red while Maggie Briggs had six kills, Avery Hanahan had five kills and eight digs, and Mercedes McNutt had 12 digs.

NORTH CLARION 3, UNION 0

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Brenna Thompson had 11 kills and two blocks to help North Clarion to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-18) win over visiting Union.

Kyler Freeman added seven kills, four digs, and four aces for the She-Wolves with Zoey Byham contributing six digs.

Ainsley Hartle ran the offense for North Clarion with 14 set assists while adding five aces.

Gracie Gallagher had two kills and an ace for Union, while Riley Kriebel and Magen Walzak each added two aces.

CORRY 3, CONNEAUT 0

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Grace Allen had 12 kills to lead Corry to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-21) win at Conneaut.

Makenna Moore added 19 digs for the Beavers while Payton McCray ran the offense with 36 set assists.

Laine Harrington had nine kills for Conneaut with Emily Vennare added five kills and four blocks and Morgan Poff 15 digs.

Payten Karastury ran the Eagles offense with 21 set assists.

SLIPPERY ROCK 3, COMMODORE PERRY 0

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Avalee Demidovich had seven kills to help Slippery Rock to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-9) win over visiting Commodore Perry.

Anora Robare ran the offense for the Rockets with 21 set assists while Lexi Plesakov had 11 digs, Adison Novad added 10 digs, and Molly Bissell contributed nine digs.
