Reynolds Grad Leise Named PSAC Wrestling Athlete of the Week for Gannon

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Reynolds High School graduate and Gannon University redshirt junior Joel Leise claimed PSAC Wrestling Athlete of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday.

Leise clinched Gannon’s win over 11th-ranked Kutztown on Friday. Competing at 197 lbs., he remained undefeated at 11-0 with a 4-1 decision over Kutztown’s Brian Kennerly. The victory gave sixth-ranked Gannon a 21-15 lead. The Golden Knights would go on to improve to 8-2 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC with a 21-18 victory.

Leise came in ranked third by the NWCA and 10th by InterMat, while Kennerly was ranked 16th by InterMat. Tied at 1-1 in the third period, Leise recorded the lone takedown of the bout with 47 seconds remaining and rode out Kennerly to gain a riding time point. The decision snapped a string of eight straight wins by fall for Leise.
