PAC Football: Grove City Moves To 8-0 For First Time in Program History

GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Grove City College defense recorded seven quarterback sacks and three takeaways Saturday afternoon while also holding visiting Saint Vincent to minus-13 rushing yards as the Wolverines rolled to a 49-0 victory in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play at Robert E. Thorn Field.

No. 22 Grove City improved to 8-0 overall and in conference play. It is the first 8-0 start in program history, which dates back to 1892.

The Wolverines also scored on special teams as senior cornerback Gabe Dunlap returned a third quarter punt 40 yards for a touchdown. Offensively, Grove City piled up 482 total yards on 71 plays.

Three Grove City quarterbacks combined to throw five touchdown passes. Junior Logan Pfeuffer completed 12 of 24 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Ayden Gutierrez  tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Gavin Mauger  in the fourth quarter to close the scoring. Earlier in the fourth quarter, sophomore quarterback Ethan Wiley  fired a 79-yard scoring strike to freshman wide receiver Seth McGroerty.

WESTMINSTER 27, ALLEGHENY 17

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.–The Westminster College football team held visiting Allegheny scoreless in the second half of Saturday night’s 27-17 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) victory at Memorial Field inside Harold Burry Stadium.

Westminster pushed its season record to 4-3 while Allegheny fell to 2-6.

Fifth-year Ryan Gomes piled up 181 yards of total offense and scored a pair of touchdowns. He rushed 26 times for 106 yards, scoring from 13 yards out with just over one minute to go in the first quarter that propelled the Titans to a 17-7 lead. Gomes caught two passes for 75 yards, including a 15-yard strike from sophomore Ty McGowan with under five to go in the second quarter that pushed Westminster’s lead to 10, 24-14.
