Dunn Helps C-L Win Showdown with Franklin; Sheffield Tops Brockway; Cochranton, Maplewood Roll (Sept. 5 VB Recaps)

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Clarion-Limestone survived an epic third set on its way to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-14, 28-26, 25-19).

With the match tied at one set apiece, the Lady Lions looked well in control of the third set up 22-11.

But Franklin fought back rolling off eight straight points to make it 22-19. But C-L was able to right the ship and got within set point at 24-19.

            

The Lady Lions, however, failed on all five set-point opportunities while sitting at 24 points ,and Franklin tied the set at 24-all on a tandem block from Abby Boland and Jamie Blum.

Franklin then went ahead 25-24 and 26-25 before C-L scored the final three points to secure the set and a 2-1 lead when Jenna Dunn completed a back row attack to capture the set.

Dunn then recorded seven of her match-high 18 kills in the fourth set to push C-L’s record to 3-0 on the season. Dunn also added six aces. She was named the Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Game and talked about the win on the Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview.

                          

Maddy Greeley added nine kills, two blocks, and two aces in the win with Alyssa Wiant chipping in nine kills, two blocks, and five aces. C-L had 19 aces on the night.

Kaylee Smith ran the Lady Lions offense with 36 set assists and added three aces, two kills, and a block.

Katie Boal had 10 kills and five blocks for Franklin with Jennifer Blum and Jamie Blum each adding four kills and Boland five blocks and two kills.

SHEFFIELD 3, BROCKWAY 0

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Sheffield got a balanced effort on its way to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-15) win over Brockway.

Kassidy Orinko had five kills, three blocks, seven digs, and four aces to lead the Wolverines’ attack. Emily Davidson had three kills and nine digs, and Kadence Steffan had 10 assists and 10 digs.

Madison Connolly had three kills and five digs and was 14 of 16 from the service line to earn Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Player of the Match honors.

“We all can definitely do everything and that’s an advantage because we can all do everything and that really helps,” Connolly said in her Cole Orthodontic Associates postgame interview. “We don’t have that many people, so we all have to be able to do everything. We can all pass, set, we can all hit really well.”

Sophia Schmader led the Rovers with six kills and six digs. Lauren Rendos had five kills and five digs, Bella Patton had two kills. Sam Barber had five digs, Kalina Powell had 17 digs and two aces, and Meeca Smith had 12 assists and seven digs.

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Danielle Griebel and 20 set assists and two aces as Punxsutawney earned a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-6).

         

Also leading Punxsutawney were Ciara Toven (9 kills, 5 aces), Samantha Griebel (4 kills, 7 aces, 8 digs), Kylie Diem (4 kills), Brynn Hergert (11 digs), Zoey Hoover (2 kills), Kinsee Barnett (1 kill, 1 set assist) and Emily Wisnesky (6 aces).

Maddy Dehart had four kills for A-C Valley with Colleen Verostek added seven digs, Rylan Strauser two kills and four assists, and Malia Page five set assists.

COCHRANTON 3, ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 0

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Maggie Jackson had 18 assists and five aces as Cochranton earned a 3-0 (25-10, 25-3, 25-13)win over Erie First Christian.

Brooklynn Needler had 11 kills and Dani Hoffman six kills and 11 aces for the Cardinals.

OIL CITY, Pa. – Ayanna Ferringer had 10 kills, five digs, and one block as Cranberry beat Oil City, 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-18).

Also for Cranberry, freshman Avery Coe had three aces and eight digs, Allie Rembold had 14 assists, Lexi Resinger two kills, and Reyna Watson five digs.

Molly Mietus had seven kills, 10 digs, and three blocks for Oil City with Nikki Petro adding four blocked and four aces, Nyssa Hanlin seven digs, and Libbie Arnink six digs. Chayse Skinner ran the Oilers offense with 16 set assists.

SAEGERTOWN 3, SENECA 0

SAEGERTOWN, Pa. – Alyssa Arblaster and Brywn McLaughlin had seven kills each to help Saegertown to a 3-0 win over Seneca.

McLaughlin also had five blocks and three aces.

Also for Saegertown, Rhia Paris had five kills and seven digs, Lyndzee Amory four kills, Lindsey Greco five digs, and Rylie Braymer three aces.

NORTH EAST 3, CATHEDRAL PREP 0

ERIE, Pa. – Cadence Jones had 12 kills, seven digs, and five aces as North East swept Cathedral Prep, 25-16, 25-19, 25-14.

Grace Sanfilippo ran the offense to the tune of 17 set assists for the ‘Pickers, while Briell King had 10 digs, Olivia Bulger had five kills and Cyana Chadwick had six aces.

Leading the Ramblers were Kaylin Laird (6 kills, 5 digs), Colette Speros (5 kills), Olivia Hutchinson (5 kills), Mackezie Moore (5 digs), and Kamryn Resurrection (18 assists).

HARBOR CREEK 3, MCDOWELL 0

HARBORCREEK, Pa. – Hannah Smith had 11 kills to help lead Harbor Creek to a 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-18) win over McDowell.

Talon King ran the offense with 22 set assists for the Huskies, while Lexi Janke had six kills and Aly Hester 11 digs.

Gabby DeLuca led McDowell with seven kills with Halle Guentner had five kills and 14 set assists, Josie Plaster 11 set assists, and Chase Rech 14 digs.

COMMODORE PERRY 3, ROCKY GROVE 1

HADLEY, Pa. – Rocky Grove fell 3-1 to Commodore Perry, 19-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18.

Leading Rocky Grove were Katie Beggs (three kills, 13 set assists), Kaidlynn Burger (4 aces, 2 digs), Abby Cable (5 kills, 3 blocks), Natalie Sloss (4 kills, 3 digs), and Paige Cresswell (4 kills).

MAPLEWOOD 3, TIDIOUTE CHARTER 0

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Bree Neely and Elizabeth Hunter had six kills each to help Maplewood to a 3-0 win over Tidioute Charter.

Neely also had seven digs, while Madison O’Hara had 15 aces and Maggie Means 16 assists.

Maplewood had 23 service aces as a team.

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Curwensville fell in four sets to Moshannon Valley, 25-17, 28-26, 22-25, 25-18.

Savannah Carfley had 22 set assists, four aces, and one kill, while Briah People had six kills and two aces, Ava Olosky seven kills, three aces, and three blocks, Brooklynn Price three kills, Bella Wood six kills and three aces, Janelle PAssmore three kills, one ace and one block, Alain Reitz two digs and Kirrily Herman one ace.

UNION CITY 3, TITUSVILLE 1

UNION CITY, Pa.- Behind 11 kills, 10 digs, and four aces from Cathryn Reynolds, Union City took care of visiting Titusville, 3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 15-25, 25-17).

Brooke VanTassel added seven kills and four aces for the Bears with Angie Hopson contributing eight kills and Lilly Vincent 12 digs. Alyssa Tingley ran the offense for Union City with 23 set assists and also had 11 digs.

Chloe Miller had 11 kills for Titusville while Jordan Wynn added six kills. Claire Emminger ran the offense with 12 set assists and chipped in six digs, Kya Boyles-Wright had 16 digs, and Kyra Atkins added 13 digs.

WILMINGTON 3, REYNOLDS 0

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Wilmington swept past visiting Reynolds, 3-0 (25-4, 25-20, 25-20).

Kylie McAdoo had two kills, 11 digs, and an ace for Reynolds while Rylee Geahart had a team-best four kills to go with two blocks. Annie Loposky ran the offense with nine set assists and also chipped in three digs and an ace.

MERCYHURST PREP 3, GENERAL MCLANE 0

ERIE, Pa. – Oliva Kulyk had 10 kills and seven aces to help homestanding Mercyhurst Prep to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-14) win over General McLane.

Addica Sperry added 14 kills and nine digs for the Lakers with Da’Zhana Jordan chipping in six digs. Julia Seth ran the Mercyhurst Prep offense with 28 set assists and also contributed six digs and five aces.

Cassidy Swain had three kills for General McLane while Anna Topel added two kills and two blocks. Ellah Beachly paced the Lancers on defense with 11 digs.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 3, JOHNSONBURG 0

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Reagan Bauer had 11 kills and two aces to lead Elk County Catholic to a 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-18) win over visiting Johnsonburg.

Tori Newton added nine kills with Lucy Klawuhn chipping in five kills. Ashlynn Schultz had four blocks and six digs, and Payton Newton added five digs and four kills. Kiri Emmert ran the offense for ECC with 22 set assists.

Kiera Marciniak had 10 kills and four blocks for Johnsonburg and Cadence Brechtel ran the offense for the Ramettes with 18 set assists and also added three blocks.

SHARON 3, HICKORY 2

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Ondrea Young and Tay Chester combined for 23 kills to lead Sharon to a 3-2 (13-25, 25-13, 24-26, 25-17, 15-9) come-from-behind win at Hickory.

Young had 12 kills and five aces and Chester added 11 kills and 13 digs.

Kylee Hasan contributed six kills and eight digs and Victorya Byler contributed seven kills. Cameron Krecek chipped in eight digs ofr the Tigers, and Jamoria Crumby ran the offense with 40 set assists and five digs.

Leah Garm had nine kills and three aces for Hickory while Kiki Joanow had seven kills and Lily Martin.

Bella Multari ran the offense for Hickory with 21 set assists while adding four aces.

SLIPPERY ROCK 3, KARNS CITY 0

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock beat visiting Karns City, 3-0 (25-10 28-26, 25-17).

Ava Fox had 12 kills, 11 digs, and two aces for Karns City with Cayley Craig had three kills and two digs, and Haylie Karenbauer chipped in three kills and two aces. Naomi Venesky contributed three kills with Nicole Taylor 13 digs. Kendall Ritzert ran the offense with 11 set assists.

Slippery Rock stats weren’t available.

ST. MARYS 3, KANE 1

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Rylee Nicklas had 16 kills to lead St. Marys to a 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 28-26, 25-21).

Carley Reitz had eight kills and Hannah Ritter chipped in five kills. Jianna Gerg led the Dutch defense with 13 digs, and Molly Hanslovan added 29 set assists.

MONITEAU 3, KEYSTONE 2

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Davin Pry had 10 kills and an ace, and Marissa Pry added nine kills and an ace to lead Moniteau to a 3-2 (25-19, 13-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-11) come-from-behind win over visiting Keystone.

Lily Staab added eight kills and an ace for the Lady Warriors.

Ava Patrick had four kills and four aces for Keystone with Gwynn Manno adding 30 digs and three aces. Bryanna Mong led the Lady Panthers with 11 set assists.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, RIDGWAY 0

DUBOIS, Pa. – Jessy Frank had seven kills to help DuBois Central Catholic to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-6) win over visiting Ridgway.

Lydia Morgan and Emma Ellensky each chipped in four kills with Ellensky also adding six aces.

Marina Hanes ran the offense for DCC with 12 set assists.

TIONESTA, Pa. – Ainsley Hartle had 25 set assists and nine aces to lead North Clarion to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-10) win over Forest Area at West Forest.

Brenna Thompson led the She-Wolves with 11 kills with Alexa Carrll adding eight kills. Julia Daum had eight service aces.

BALD EAGLE 3, CLEARFIELD 0

HYDE, Pa. – Visiting Bald Eagle downed Clearfiekd, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-18).

Addy Ruiz had three kills for Clearfield.

EISENHOWER 3, YOUNGSVILLE 2

RUSSELL, Pa. – A strong night at the service line helped Eisenhower outlast rival Youngsville for a 3-2 (18-25, 25-15, 25-16, 19-25, 15-13) victory Tuesday.

The Knights served 24 aces throughout the match, led by Layla Edwards with eight and Emilie Jones with seven.

Caroline Smyth led the attack with eight kills and eight blocks. Jones had seven kills, Lainey Font had six kills and five aces, Marissa Gourley had three kills and five blocks, and Kenzie Miller had two kills.

Edwards added four blocks, and Carley Christianson had four aces.
