D9/10 Players Well Represented on PaHSSBCA All-State Softball Teams

A total of 33 players from District 9 and District 10 were selected to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association All-State teams, released Thursday.

Of those 33, 19 hailed from District 9 schools and 14 from District 10, while 15 were first-team selections and 18 were second-team. Class 4A had the most honorees with a total of 12.

St. Marys had the most selections among D9/10 schools with five in Class 4A, while DuBois Central Catholic and Elk County Catholic in 1A and Wilmington in 2A had three selections each.

There were seven first-team selections in Class 1A, including DCC’s Jessy Frank (catcher) and Kaylee Risser (OF), Elk County Catholic’s Lucy Klawuhn (shortstop) and Emily Mourer (DP), as well as A-C Valley’s Mackenzie Parks (shortstop).

Named to the second-team in Class 1A were DCC’s Kali Franklin (shortstop) and ECC’s Gabby Weisner (outfield).

                  

Garnering first-team selections in Class 2A were Moniteau’s Brianna Rottman (outfield) and Emma Covert (utility), as well as Keystone’s Natalie Bowser (catcher), Wilmington’s Faith Jones (catcher) and Sharpsville’s Lily Palko (shortstop).

Earning second-team in Class 2A were Wilmington’s Paije Peterson (third base) and Avery Harlan (outfield), as well as Mercer’s Angelina Eakman (pitcher), Sharpsville’s Breanna Hanley (pitcher) and Johnsonburg’s Natalie Dunworth (shortstop).

The only two selections in Class 3A were from Harbor Creek, with Hannah Smith getting the first-team nod at catcher and AB Cipalla second-team at catcher.

In Class 4A, Conneaut’s Brooke Wise (second base) and Linda Shepard (third base) were first-team, as were Franklin’s Trinity Edge (pitcher) and Clearfield’s Ruby Singleton (utility).

                          

Named to the second team in Class 2A were St. Marys’ Kendall Young (pitcher), Gianna Surra (catcher), Lindsey Reiter (first base), Oliva Eckles (second base) and Avery Eckles (DP), as well as Cathedral Prep’s Jenna Wagner (pitcher) and Madison Simmerman (third base) and Franklin’s Sydni Hoobler (second base).

A pair of DuBois players earned second-team honors in Class 5A – outfielder Morgan Pasternak and Gabby Gulvas at utility.

The teams were selected from well over 550 nominations by high school coaches and media members statewide.
