BREAKING: Redbank Valley at Curwensville Game Canceled

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – The Redbank Valley at Curwensville game scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night has been canceled.

Bulldogs head coach Blane Gold told D9and10Sports.com that the game was canceled at the request of Curwensville.

Curwensville athletic director Allen Leigey said that wasn’t the case, and Curwensville superintendent Ron Matchok told D9and10Sports.com that the district was following the guidelines put forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Health that he said states that if a team played a team that had a positive COVID-19 test that team should then quarantine and not play.

Redbank Valley beat Keystone Friday, Oct. 9. Keystone was forced to cancel its game Saturday vs. Conemaugh Valley after a member of the high school community tested positive for COVID-19. It is not known if that student was a member of the Panthers’ football team.

This would have been the second meeting of the year between the teams. Redbank Valley won the first one, 44-0 Sept. 11.

Both teams are scheduled to play next week. Redbank Valley is playing in the District 9 Class 1A semifinals while Curwensville will host Bucktail.

Editor’s Note: This story has been updated with the information from Matchok and Leigey.
