MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – Dylan Danch’s goal with 15 minutes left in the second overtime gave Cathedral Prep the PIAA Class 3A boys’ soccer championship with a 3-2 win over Springfield Township.

The win was Prep’s third overtime victory in the state tournament as the Ramblers won in overtime in the first round and semifinals. Noah Handzel, who scored the overtime winners in the previous two contests, assisted on Danch’s goal.

The Ramblers fell behind 1-0 and 2-1. Handzel tied it at 1-1 with 25 minutes left in regulation, and James DiSanza made it 2-2 with 3:51 to play in regulation.

Prep is now the first District 10 team to win an outright state title in boys’ soccer. The Ramblers split the title with Strath Haven with a 1-1 tie in 2001, before the PIAA had penalty kicks.

Chris Rossetti will have more on this historic title win from Mechanicsburg.
