April 27, 2021 D10 Softball/Baseball: Moore Belts Two Homers in Cochranton SB Win; Zaffino Hits, Pitches Mercyhurst Prep BB to Victory

COCHRANTON 16, YOUNGSVILLE 0, 3 innings

COCHRANTON, Pa. – Cochranton scored 11 runs in the first inning en route to a 16-0 victory over Youngsville. 

Lexie Moore belted two home runs for the Cardinals, totaling four RBIs. All 11 runs in the first inning came after two outs, including both home runs by Moore, a solo blast, and a 3-run shot. 

                  

Claudia Lippert went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Jay McGill was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs. 

Taytum Jackson allowed just one hit in her three innings of work, striking out five. 

FRANKLIN 2, CORRY 0

FRANKLIN, Pa. – Franklin scored single runs in the third and fifth inning on errors, beating Franklin, 2-0. 

Trinity Edge tossed a 3-hitter for the Knights. 

                          

Lexi Frisina was the tough-luck loser, allowing just three hits and striking out five. 

VILLA MARIA 7, GENERAL MCLANE 1 

EDINBORO, Pa. – Vila Maria broke open a scoreless tie with six runs in the six innings en route to a 7-1 win over General McLane.

Jenna Wagner and Emalie Thomas belted 2-run home runs in the inning for Villa, while Hayley Dever had an RBI fielder’s choice and Annabella Cipalla an RBI single. 

Wagner got the complete-game victory, striking out nine and allowing just five hits and one walk. 

               

Bailey Cannon went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for GM. Cannon took the loss, allowing seven hits and striking out six. 

HICKORY 9, SLIPPERY ROCK 6

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Hickory rallied from a 4-1 deficit, scoring five runs in the fourth inning on its way to a 9-6 win over Slippery Rock. 

Hallie Miller Kaelyn Fustos and Loren Myers all had two RBIs for the Hornets, with Miller belting a solo home run. 

The Hornets also took advantage of five Slippery Rock errors. 

Kinzie Miller went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run, while Mackenzie Hartley was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Paige Gresgott was also 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Rockets. 

NORTH EAST 18, IROQUOIS 3, 3 innings 

LAWRENCE PARK, Pa. – North East scored 10 runs in the second inning on its way to an 18-3 win over Iroquois. 

Cadence Jones, Madison Shafer, Amelia Svetz, Elizabeth Svetz, Elle Blakeslee, and Delaney Prather all had RBIs in the second for Iroquois. 

               

Shaffer finished 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, while Prather was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, and three runs, and Elizabeth Svetz was 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs. 

WILMINGTON 11, LAKEVIEW 6

STONEBORO, Pa. – Wilmington scored 10 runs over the final three innings to defeat Lakeview, 11-6. 

The Greyhounds belted four home runs in the game, including two from Taylor Dlugozima and one each from Faith Jones and Paije Peterson. 

Wilmington ripped off 21 hits, with eight of its nine starters collecting multiple knocks. 

Dlugozima went 3-for-4 with five RBIs, while Jones was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and four runs and Peterson 3-for-5 with three RBIs. 

Remi Koi went the distance, allowing two earned runs on nine hits, striking out nine. 

Lakeview scored four runs in the seventh inning. Elizabeth Chaffee doubled and drove in a pair of runs, while Sofia DiMaria went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and RBI. 

FORT LEBOEUF 10, MCDOWELL 4 

ERIE, Pa. – Fort LeBoeuf scored seven runs in the third inning to earn a 10-4 win over McDowell. 

Amanda Bentley doubled, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a pair of runs, while Kendal Stull was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. 

Stull got the win, allowing 10 hits in seven innings, striking out four. 

Hilary Sissom was 2-for-3 with an RBI for McDowell. 

Alivia Soule took the loss, allowing nine runs (four earned) on seven hits, striking out eight in 4 ⅔ innings. 

MERCER 4, SHARPSVILLE 3

MERCER, Pa. – Maddie Daris delivered the walk-off base hit in the seventh inning to rally Mercer past Sharpsville, 4-3. 

Mercer trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. Grace Godfrey tied the game with her RBI triple. 

Erika Grandy belted a 3-run home run for the Blue Devils. 

Amanda Bish got the win, striking out 14 and allowing five hits. Breanna Hanley took the loss. 

FAIRVIEW 18, SENECA 7, 5 innings

WATTSBURG, Pa. – Fairview scored 14 runs in the first three innings, including seven in the third en route to an 18-7 win over Seneca. 

Chloe McManus went 2-for-2 with a home run, triple a pair of walks, two RBIs and four runs. 

Ella Dworek and Gabi Ortiz each drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers, while Davina Masterson was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. 

Khyli Peterson went 1-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs for Seneca

Hailey Komisarski got the win, allowing two earned runs and striking out four. 

BASEBALL

MERCYHURST PREP 12, GIRARD 0, 5 innings 

ERIE, Pa. – Hayden Zaffino had a monster game for Mercyhurst Prep, as the Lakers beat Girard 12-0. 

Zaffino tossed a 5-inning 1-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking two.

His 3-run in the fifth inning put the game to bed with the 10-run rule. He finished 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs and three runs. 

Mike Nelligan was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lakers. 

Austin Barrett took the loss for Girard

SHARPSVILLE 12, WILMINGTON 2, 6 innings

SHARPSVILLE, Pa. – Kaleb Gorichky and Kolten Eckles drove in three runs each as Sharpsville powered past Wilmington, 12-2. 

Gorichky had three hits, as did Jared Leipheimer, while James Thomas had two hits and two RBIs. 

Brock Lenzi got the win, striking out six and allowing four hits in 4 ⅔ innings.
