St. Marys Wins Elk County Baseball Tournament Thursday

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Six-plus strong innings on the mound by Ben Paul helped St. Marys caputre the Elk County Baseball Tournament with a 4-2 win over Elk County Catholic Thursday at Berwind Park in St. Marys.

Paul pitched into the seventh inning allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks – two in the seventh. He struck out seven.

Lucas Bauer got the save allowing two hits but strikign out the side after taking over for Paul with two on and no outs in the seventh.

Tysen Beimel had a pair of RBIs for the Dutch going 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Ben Reynolds was 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Colby Nussbaum took the loss going 4 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three.

                  

Matt Gilmore was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Crusaders.

CONSOLATION GAME: PORT ALLEGANY 3, JOHNSONBURG 1

In the consoltion game, a pair of Port Allegany pitchers combined to toss a four-hitter in a 3-1 win over Johnsonburg.

Derek Smith got the win in relief of Jacob Causer going 3 1/3 innings allowing two hits and a walk while striking out four.

Causer pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up an earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out three.

                          

Isaiah Jackson was the tough-luck loser going six innings allowing two unearned runs on three hits, two walks, and a hit batter. He struck out nine.

Nick Wilfong was 1-for-4 with two runs scored for Port Allegany, while Tyler Fillhart went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Jackson was 2-for-4 for Johnsonburg with Louis Bonini going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
