YORK, Pa. – One putt for the title.

North East senior Isaiah Swan drilled a long playoff putt on the first playoff hole against Scranton Prep’s Matthew Tressler to claim the PIAA Class 2A title on Monday at Heritage Hills.

Swan and Tressler both carded 69s to get the playoff, which put them five shots clear of a 5-way tie for third-place at 74.

Swan came out strong, birding two of his first four holes and shooting a 33 on the front nine.

He bogeyed holes 10 and 11, but rallied, birding 16 to get him back to -2 for his round.

Tressler started on the back nine and shot a 38, but played magnificent golf over the final nine holes, shooting a 31 for his 69. That included six birdies – including four-straight on holes 1-4. He had a chance to win the title outright, but bogeyed his final hole to sent him to the playoff with Swan.

Swan’s teammate, Carter Hassenplug and Kane’s Curt Barner, were the next highest finisher on the boys side, carding a 9-over 80 to tie for 18th.

Swan’s sister, Lydia finished third in Class 2A girls, carding a +6 (78). Vileska Gelpi of Rockwood shot a +2 (74) to win the title. Anna Swan finished at +10 (82) to finish in a tie for seventh.

Lydia Swan won the state title a year ago and finished second in 2018.
