ECC, Punxsutawney Advance to D9 2A Team Tennis Championship Match

   

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Elk County Catholic and Punxsutawney advanced to the District 9 Class 2A team tennis championship match with wins on Wednesday.

Top-seeded ECC beat fourth-seeded Bradford, 5-0, while second-seeded Punxsutawney took down third-seeded St. Marys, 4-1.

ECC and Punxsutawney will meet for the title at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 at DuBois.

ECC 5, BRADFORD 0

            

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Sweeping all five matches, ECC had little trouble getting by Bradford at Benzinger Park in St. Marys.

At No. 1 singles, Megan Emmert beat Jaylee Koppenhaver, 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 2 singles, Sarah Hasselman beat Lilly Kemick, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4

At No. 3 singles, Rachael Wolfe beat Sophia Cornelius, 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Melena Piccirillo and Audree Meyer beat Sydney Hamer and Sophia Wright, 6-1, 6-1.

                          

At No. 2 doubles, Anna Biondi and Grace Ames beat Kali O’Neil and Emmy Kemick, 6-1, 6-2.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 4, ST. MARYS 1

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – At Punxsutawney High School, the Lady Chucks took all but the No. 1 doubles to beat St. Marys, 4-1.

At No. 1 singles, in a rematch of Tuesday’s individual championship match, Punxsutawney’s Emily McMahan beat St. Marys’s Roan Lion, 6-3, 6-4.

At No. 2 singles, it was Olivia Toven of Punxsutawney over Maddy Wittman, 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 3 singles, it was Punxsutawney’s Rachael Porada over Tralynn Ginter, 6-0, 6-1.

St. Marys picked up its lone win at No. 2 doubles as Rylee Nicklas and Sara Regulski beat Addison London and Leanne Zampini, 6-1, 7-5.

At No. 2 doubles it was Punxsutawney’s Mya Galentine and Olivia Smith beating Isabelle Farabaugh and Pilar Pfoutz, 6-3
