GENEVA, Ohio – Brookville grad Bryan Dworek made history for Slippery Rock on Saturday.

Dworek broke the second-oldest men’s indoor track and field record at SRU in the long jump to lead The Rock men to a total of five NCAA provisional qualifying marks, 22 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying marks, and 18 top-10 finishes at the SPIRE Collegiate Indoor Games.

Dworek headlined what was easily the best showing by the SRU team all season when he won the long jump on his sixth and final attempt with a career-best and NCAA provisional leap of 7.44 meters. That jump broke the former SRU record of 7.38 meters that was set by Jeff McBride in 1989. It was the second-oldest men’s indoor record at SRU, behind only the 1980 high jump record (2.09m) set by Mike Phipps. Dworek’s jump moved him from 21st on the Division II leaderboard this year all the way up to 11th.

Athletes from more than 40 colleges and teams were in action Saturday, including teams representing all three NCAA divisions.
