2-Run 6th Pushes Cranberry Past Moniteau, Into D9 2A Title Game powered by N. Washington Rodeo

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Cranberry scored twice in the sixth on its way to a 6-4 win over Moniteau in their District 9 Class 2A semifinal.

The Berries took advantage of a pair of errors in the inning to score both runs. Jadyn Shumaker hit a 1-out single to get a runner aboard. One out later, Haylie Gregory singled to left. Shumaker scored on an error. Gracee Hess followed by reaching on an error. The error allowed Gregory to score and Hess to end up on third base.

The Warriors rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie it at 4-4. Lily Staab led off the fourth with a triple and Lexi McGhee walked. Both came home on Halle Beatty’s single to cut the lead to 4-3. One out later a walk and single loaded the bases, but Hess got Addy Williams to ground into a fielder’s choice and struck out Alex Stewart to end the threat.

Moniteau tied it in the fifth. Emily Staab hit a leadoff single and advanced to third on an error. Emily Staab scored on a dropped third strike to tie it at 4-4.

Mariska Shunk had three hits, including a double, and scored a run. Beatty and Stewart each had two hits. Beatty drove in a pair while Stewart had one RBI.

                  

McGhee took the loss allowing two unearned runs on two hits with a walk and four strikeouts in 4 ⅔ innings. Graysen Rottman allowed four runs, three earned, on four hits with a walk and a strikeout in 1 ⅓ innings.

Reyna Watson tripled and Keelie Schneider, Cassie Scarbrough, and Avery Coe each doubled for Cranberry. Watson, Schneider, and Scarbrough each had an RBI.

Hess allowed one unearned run on six hits with two walks and six strikeouts in four innings. Rylee Coe allowed three earned runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts in three innings.

Cranberry will face Curwensville, a 12-11 winner over Karns City, at 11 a.m. Monday for the D9 2A championship at Heindl Field in DuBois.
