ERIE, Pa. – Villa Maria’s Tara Thomas and Fairview’s Trinity Fox battled the elements to become District 10 singles tennis champions.
Thomas, just a day after competing in the PIAA golf championships, was dominant after waiting out a rain delay, beating Hickory’s Daphne Borowicz 6-0, 6-0 to win the Class 2A title.
Fox beat McDowell’s Samantha Becker 6-4, 6-3 in a match that started out at the Villa Courts and had to be moved indoors to Fairview because of darkness.
Both winners advance to PIAA subregional play, with the first round of the PIAA championships slated for Nov. 2.
