CRESSON, Pa. – The Union City Lady Bears are moving on.

The Lady Bears bounced back from their first loss of the season in the District 10 Class 2A title game with a 4-0 win over District 3’s Upper Dauphin on Friday at Mount Aloysius College to advance to the first round of the PIAA playoffs.

On Monday, they will meet District 9 champion Moniteau at 4 p.m. at Clarion-Limestone high school.

Against Upper Dauphin, pitcher Abby Tingley was brilliant. In earning the complete game shutout, she allowed just four hits and struck out nine without issuing a walk.

The Lady Bears (20-1) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning as Cathryn Reynolds belted an RBI double to bring in Kam Gates-Bowersox.

In the fourth inning, Lucy Higley’s RBI double brought in Sydney Gilbert to make it 2-0. Higley had her second RBI double of the game in the sixth inning, followed by another run-scoring pinch-hit two-bagger off the bat of Julie Burger to put the finishing touches on the game for Union City.

The Lady Bears connected for 10 hits, including two each from Reynolds, Higley, and Gilbert. Gilbert also scored a pair of runs.
