Toven Leads Punxsy to Win Over Strong Ligonier Valley Team; Heller K’s 19 in No-No for O-E; DuBois Gets Win

Bri Heller had 19 strikeouts while throwing a no-hitter for Otto-Eldred Saturday

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Ciara Toven threw a six-hitter, and Punxsutawney overcame a two-run deficit to beat visiting Ligonier Valley, 3-2.

In the process, the Lady Chucks beat a pitcher, Cheyenne Piper, who had thrown a perfect game against them a year ago.

Toven was a big part of the win going seven innings allowing two earned runs on six hits, a walk, and a hit batter while striking out 12.

Both of the Rams’ runs came in the third inning giving them a 2-0 lead.

   

                  

But Punxsutawney tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Avary Powell scored on an error and Brynn Hergert scored on a double steal.

The Lady Chucks took the lead in the fifth when Lexi Poole singled leading off the inning, went to third on a double by Powell with one out, and scored on a Karli Young sac fly.

Hergert was 2-for-2 with a run scored while Powell was 1-for-1 while also being hit by a pitch and scoring a run, Poole was 1-for-3 with a run scored, and Young was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Piper was solid in the circle going six innings allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits and three hit batters while striking out 12.

Abigail Spring was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Peyton LaVale was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Ligonier Valley.

                          

DUBOIS 3, BELLEFONTE 1

BELLEFONTE, Pa. – DuBois was able to get the first of its two scheduled games at the Bellefonte Tournament in beating the host Raiders, 3-1, before having the second game rained out.

Ava Baronick threw a gem in the win going seven innings of two-hit ball. She gave up one unearned run, walked three, and struck out six.

DuBois broke a 1-all tie with two runs in the seventh a Gabby Gulvas single driving in one and the second run scored on an error.

               

Gulvas was 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Morgan Pasternak was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Madison Melius was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk, and a run scored for Bellefonte.

OTTO-ELDRED 7, SMETHPORT 0

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Bri Heller recorded 19 of her 21 outs via strikeout while throwing a no-hitter in Otto-Eldred’s 7-0 win over visiting Smethport.

Only a pair of Lady Terror errors kept Heller from perfection.

Katie Sheeler and Jesse Hall each had hits for Otto-Eldred with Hall driving in a run.

Elizabeth Hungiville took the loss allowing two hits, eight walks, and four hit batters while striking out six.

COWANESQUE VALLEY 14, PORT ALLEGANY 0, 5 INNINGS

PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – Makenzie Surine and Laynie Labarron combined to throw a five-inning no-hitter to help Cowanesque Valley to a 14-0, five-inning win at Port Allegany.

Surine hit a batter and struck out six while Labarron walked a batter and struck out six.

            

Maddie Milliard led the Indians going 2-for-2 while Ruby Sherman had a three-run double.

Port Allegany committed 10 errors behind Cayle Lloy, who gave up five hits, two hit batters, and two walks while striking out six. Makayla Alcorn gave up four hits and struck out one.
