District 10 has had quite the run in golf, and this past season was no different, as the Hickory girls won the Class 2A team title and Union City’s Josh James the Class 2A boys individual crown.

James made it two-straight D10 golfers to win state crowns, joining North East’s Isaiah Swan, who took gold in 2020.

James fired a 1-over 72 at Heritage Hills in York, putting him two shots clear of three others – Palmerton’s Josh Suto, Avonworth’s Kai Carlson, and Quaker Valley’s Jackson Bould for the Class 2A boys’ title.

James started on the tenth hole and shot a 38 on the back nine, which included seven pars, a bogey, and a double bogey.

He got hot on the front nine, collecting birdies on the Par 5 second and Par 4 fourth. He played steady golf the rest of the way, making seven pars on the front nine as well.

James’ teammate, Tyler Parkhurst, shot a 75 to finish fifth.

The Hickory girls, meanwhile, were simply dominant. Sasha Petrochko shot a 74, McKenzie Gustas 75, and Luciana Masters a 76 as the top three scores counted toward the team total. The Hornets’ 225 easily outdistanced second-place Greensburg Central Catholic by 14 shots.

Petrochko’s rounds included a 34 on the back nine and four total birdies. Gustas’ round included an eagle on the par 5 second hole and a 36 on the front nine, while Masters also shot a 36 on the front nine.

Ava Liburdi also carded an 87 for Hickory.

North East finished third in the team standings, finishing one stroke behind GCC at 240.
