OIL CITY, Pa. – Oil City’s Ethen Knox made the most of his eight games as a sophomore, including against Route 8 rival Franklin when he rushed for a school-record 484 yards.
Yes, 484 yards.
In the 54-8 win, Knox scored on runs of 87, 13, 5, 51, and 80 yards. His 349 first-half yards put him well within reach of Christian Cole’s record of 389 yards.
Knox had the 484 yards on 26 carries, an average of 18.6 yards per carry. The Oilers went 3-5 on the season, with Knox averaging 228.1 yards per game rushing.
For the season, the sophomore rushed for 1,825 yards on 225 carries, an average of 7.2 yards per carry. He also scored 14 touchdowns on the ground.
He only failed to reach 100 yards once in eight games (he rushed for 95 against Meadville) and had at least 185 yards on the ground in six of his eight games.
He was also named D9and10Sports’ District 10 Jim Kelly Player of the Week on three separate occasions.
