NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Scoring 1,000 points in a high school basketball career is a remarkable achievement, but to accomplish the feat in the same game as a teammate is truly rare.

That’s what Redbank Valley seniors Chris Marshall and Bryson Bain did, both reaching the milestone in a 72-19 win over Cranberry on Dec. 16.

Marshall and Bain were part of a Bulldogs team that reached the District 9 Class 2A runner-up and reached the PIAA quarterfinals before dropping a close game to Kennedy Catholic, 61-56.

Bain, who came into the game needing 12 points to reach the milestone, was the first one to do so at the 6:54 mark of the second quarter, and he was followed by Marshall, who was 16 points shy of the mark coming into the game, a 1:43 later.

The duo, who have been playing basketball together since fourth grade, came into the season needing 47 and 55 points respectively.

It was part of a special season for the Bulldogs, who didn’t take long to find their footing, with Marshall, Bain and several others on the team jumping right into hoops season following a trip to the PIAA Class 1A football championship game.

They had a 17-game win streak, going over two months between losses (Dec. 29 to Slippery Rock and the D9 title game on March 4).

The duo became the eighth and ninth players in program history to achieve the feet.
