Strong First Day for D9/10 Wrestlers at PIAA Championships Powered by Luton’s Plumbing, Heating, A/C

HERSHEY, Pa. – It was a strong first day at the PIAA individual wrestling championships, as a total of 23 D9/10 wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinals, with at least one wrestler advancing in each of the 13 weight classes.

The 160-pound weight class was the headliner, as Chance Kimmy, Conneaut’s Collin Hearn, and Grove City’s Hunter Hohman.

Grove City saw three wrestlers advance, including Hohman’s brother Hudson at 121 as well as Cody Hamilton at 145.

                              

Fort LeBoeuf joins Grove City with three wrestlers moving on to the quarterfinals in JoJo Przybycien at 133, Conner McChesney at 172 and Danny Church at 215.

Teams advancing two wrestlers to the quarterfinals include Cranberry’s Dalton Wenner (107) and Elijah Brosius (121), North East’s Cyrus Hurd (127) and Steffan Lynch (12), Conneaut’s Hunter Gould (127) and Collin Hearn (160) and General McLane’s Chance Kimmy (160) and Magnus Lloyd (189).

Also advancing to the quarterfinals was Brockway’s Weston Pisarchick at 114, Cambridge Springs’ Brody Beck at 133, Clearfield’s Brady Collins at 139, Sharpsville’s Caullin Summers at 152, Reynolds’ Jalen Wagner at 172, Brookville’s Jackson Zimmerman at 189, Girard’s Abe Keep at 215 and Sharon’s Mike Mazurek at 285.

Port Allegany’s Carson Neely, who came into the tournament with an unbeaten 33-0 record, advanced to the quarterfinals as well with a 7-1 decision over Burgettstown Joey Baronick.

A number of D9/10 wrestlers are still alive for a medal in the consolation brackets, including Northwestern’s Sierra Chiesa at 107, the first female wrestler to ever qualify for the PIAA boys’ championships.

Chiesa dropped a 6-5 decision in her opening match but came back to earn an 8-5 decision in the first-round consolations.

AAA

McDowell’s Logan Sallot was the only District 9 or District 10 wrestler to advance to the quarterfinals, earning a 4-2 first-round win over Seneca Valley’s Connor Smith.

The Class 2A quarterfinals begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, with the consolations also starting at 9. The semifinals and fourth-round consolations will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Class 3A quarterfinals and consolations will begin at 2:15 p.m. on Friday.
