HYDE, Pa. – St. Marys’ Lilia Lion and Brooke Henry claimed the District 9 Class 2A double title with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over teammates Lydia Ehrensberger and Rachel Fleming Thursday at Clearfield High School.
It is the third straight District 9 doubles crown for Lion, and it continued the recent dominance by the Lady Dutch who have now won six straight team titles, eight straight singles titles, and three straight doubles championships.
Lion and Henry were 3-0 on their way to the title beating Brockway’s Hannah Zuccolotto and Taylor Rhed, 10-0, in the quarterfinals then downing Punxsutawney’s Chloe Presloid and Jade McMahan, 6-2, 7-5, in the semifinals.
Ehrensberger and Fleming reached the title match with a 10-1 first-round win over Johnsonburg’s Kendal Mehalko and Maria Catalano, a quarterfinal victory over Clearfield’s Kylie VanTassel and Lindsey Kerlin, and a semifinal win over Punxsutawney’s Allie Meko and Kendal Johnston.
