St. Marys Claims District 9 Class 2A Girls’ Tennis Title

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Sweeping all three singles matches, St. Marys claimed the 2020 District 9 Class 2A girls’ team tennis title with a 4-1 victory over Clearfield at Benzinger Park in St. Marys Wednesday. It is the fifth straight title for the Lady Dutch

Top-seeded St. Marys got a pair of easy wins in singles including a 6-0, 6-0 victory by No. 1 singles and District 9 singles champion Samantha Hayes over Kylie VanTassel and a 6-0, 6-2 win by No. 2 singles and District 9 runner-up Lilia Lion over Lindsey Kerlin.

The third singles match proved to be one of the top matches of the day with St. Marys’ Brooke Henry topping Clearfield’s Allyson Gaines, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.

Clearfield got its lone win at No. 1 doubles with Kristie VanTassel and Peyton Reese beating Lydia Ehrensberger and Rachel Fleming, 9-7.

In No. 2 doubles, St. Marys’ Emma Gavazzi and Mya Klaiber topped Kendyhl and Lauryn Kitchen, 6-0, 6-1.

            

St. Marys will face the District 5 champion Monday, Oct. 26, at a District 5 site.
