CLEARFIELD, Pa. – St. Marys senior Dylan Aiello won the District 9 Class 2A singles tennis championship on Friday, besting Brockway’s Lewis Painter in the finals in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
Aiello beat Brockway’s Jared Marchiori 10-0 in the quarterfinals and Bradford’s Ben Gigliotti 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals.
Painter, meanwhile, beat Punxsutawney’s Braxton Sherry 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals and Elk County Catholic’s Anthony Messineo 10-2 in the quarterfinals.
Aiello advances to the PIAA championships at the Hershey Racquet Club on May 28 and 29. His first opponent will be District 11 champion Curtis Gruber from Bethlehem Catholic.
