Smail’s Slam Punctuates 11-Run Eighth Inning in Clarion’s Win Over Johnsonburg; Redbank Valley Wins Wild No-Hitter in Which It Allowed 6 Runs

CLARION 17, JOHNSONBURG 10, 8 innings

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Dawson Smail’s grand slam capped an 11-run eighth inning as Clarion earned a 17-10 win over Johnsonburg.

The game was tied 6-6 going to extra innings, with Derek Smail getting the big eighth inning started with a double. It’s an inning that also included an RBI single from Noah Harrison, followed by four consecutive bases-loaded walks to Tanner Miller, Matt Alston, Hayden Weber and Wyatt Watterson.

Dawson Smail finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs, a walk, and two runs, Harrison was 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI, Derek Smail was was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and two walks, and Miller 3-for-5 with four RBIs, two runs and a walk.

   

                  

It was a game Clarion actually trailed 6-1 going to the sixth, but scored three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh, sending the game to extras on Miller’s two-run single.

Johnsonburg’s four runs in the bottom of the eighth came on an Aiden Zimmerman RBI single, followed by a Kaden Dennis two-run single and a Derek Beimel bases-loaded walk.

Dennis finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Beimel drove in two runs, Cameron Larkin was 2-for-5 with an RBI, a run and a double and Michael Copello was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

Aiden Zimmerman took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in 1 ⅓ innings.

REDBANK VALLEY 10, WEST SHAMOKIN 6

                          

RURAL VALLEY, Pa. -In perhaps the strangest no-hitter of all-time, Redbank Valley beat West Shamokin, 10-6.

Five Redbank Valley pitchers – Mathew Kozma, Mason Clouse, Ty Carrier, Wagner, and Jaxon Huffman – didn’t allow a hit but gave up six runs on 10 walks while striking out 14 led by Wagner’s four whiffs in two innings.

Redbank built a 10-0 lead after the top of the sixth and held off a late West Shamokin rally for a 10-6 victory with the Wolves taking advantage of the 10 walks and a Redbank Valley error to score their six runs.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in both the second and fourth innings.

               

Braylon Wagner, who got the win on the mound, went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored, while Tate Minich was 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs and one RBI, and Breckin Minich was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored.

Ben McConnell had an RBI for West Shamokin.

Max Long took the loss, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) in three-plus innings, allowing 10 hits, and striking out six.

BELLEFONTE 13, CLEARFIELD 2, 5 innings

HYDE, Pa. – Bellefonte scored 11 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to earn a 13-2, 5-inning win over Clearfield.

The Red Raiders scored five runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth.

Braedyn Kormanic went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs, while Triston Heckman and Josh Brown had two RBIs apiece.

Dominic Capperella got the win, going 4 ⅔ innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while recording 11 of his 14 outs via strikeout.

Morgen Billotte was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Clearfield.
