Slippery Rock, Carnegie Mellon, Penn State Move Up in Respective AFCA Top 25 Polls

WACO, TEXAS – It was a good week for several area college football programs, as Slippery Rock, Carnegie Mellon, and Penn State continued to climb in their respective Top 25 AFCA Coaches Polls following wins.

Slippery Rock is coming off a 30-2 drubbing of Seton Hill on Saturday and moved from No. 11 to No. 8 (PSAC East rep Shepherd is up to No. 4). The Rock (4-0) has a key PSAC West matchup when they travel to IUP on Saturday. The Crimson Hawks check in just outside the Top 25 at No. 26 (tops in others receiving votes) after a 33-16 win over Mercyhurst.

Carnegie Mellon meanwhile is at No. 19 in the Division III poll at 3-0. They travel to Thiel on Saturday. Also from the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, Washington & Jefferson, and Westminster are in the others receiving votes category.

At the Division I level, Penn State has gone from unranked to No. 12 following a 33-14 win on Saturday over Central Michigan. Pitt checks in at No. 24 following a victory over Rhode Island, while Notre Dame checks in with others receiving votes. Penn State hosts Northwestern on Saturday, while Pitt hosts Georgia Tech and has a bye week.
