Wilmington’s trip to the state championship game yielded an impressive haul on the Pa. Football Writers’ Class 2A All-State team, as the Greyhounds netted a whopping seven players to the squad, while coach Brandon Phillian earned Coach of the Year Honors.
Phillian guided the Greyhounds to a District 10 title for the fifth straight year in this his third season as head coach, and second appearance in the Class 2A state title game in his tenure.
Five of the seven players for the Greyhounds came on offense – running backs Ethan Susen and Darren Miller, as well as offensive linemen Weston Phanco, Connor Vass-Gal and Jacob Chimak, while Caelan Bender was named as a defensive back and Mason Reed at athlete.
For Farrell, Anthony Stallworth made the team at running back, Brice Butler at receiver, Gary Satterwhite III along the offenisve line and Taidon Strickland at linebacker.
The two teams met three times this season, all won by Wilmington, including in the D-10 title game, 19-14.
Brookville’s Jack Krug put the finishing touches on his brilliant high school career, as he was named at quarterback. Fellow District 9 competitor Nathan Waltman of Karns City was also named at linebacker.
