Sept. 5, 2020 Tennis Recaps: Villa Maria, Hickory Sweep to Wins

   

ERIE, Pa. – Villa Maria swept past visiting Fairview, 5-0, in girls’ tennis action Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Getting wins for the Victors were Tara Thomas (6-1, 6-2), Ryleigh Valone (6-0, 6-0), and Anna Poranski (6-0, 6-1) in singles and the doubles teams of Abagail Consiglio and Anne Marie Prichard (6-1, 6-2) and Grace Teed and Margaret Mary McGovern (6-4, 3-6, 6-2).

HICKORY 5, SHARON 0

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Led by easy singles wins from Daphne Borowicz and Nicolle Leonard, Hickory shut out Sharon, 5-0, in girls’ tennis action Saturday.

Borowicz and Leonard lost a combined one set on the day with Borowicz winning 6-0, 6-0 and Leonard 6-0, 6-1 to led the Hornets to the victory.

            

GROVE CITY 5, FRANKLIN 0

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Grove City won all four matches played on the court on its way to a 5-0 win over visiting Franklin Saturday.

Picking up singles wins for the Eagles were Mary Coulter, Macy Mattson and Abby Aument. Only one of the two doubles matches was contested with Grove City getting a victory from Tessa Stewart and Katie Glenn. Franklin had to forfeit the second doubles match because it didn’t have enough players.

ERIE 4, CONNEAUT (OHIO) 1

ERIE, Pa. – Thanks in part to singles wins by Sydney Edwards and Enisa Siljkovic, Erie High picked up a 4-1 win over Conneaut (Ohio).

                          

The Royals also saw doubles victories from the teams of Mackenzie Bruce and Madison DiSanza and Anusha Raid and Eliza Claudio.
