Sept. 22, 2020 Tennis Recaps: Oil City, Clearfield, Villa victorious

OIL CITY, Pa. – Payton Bunk, Emily Russell and Kayla DeShazo all won their singles matches, helping Oil City to a sweep of Franklin.

Bunk beat Julia Lusher 6-2, 7-4, Russell defeated Alexah Proper 6-1, 6-0 and DeShazo bested Alex Nordozzi 6-3, 6-1.

Emily Bly and Kayla Jo Smith won a marathon match over Gracie Riddle and Ryah Smith at No. 1 doubles, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, while the No. 2 doubles team of Kylee Copley and Breanna Terwilliger won 6-0, 6-0 for the Oilers.

CLEARFIELD 7, HUNTINGDON 0

CLEARFIELD, Pa. – Clearfield dropped only three points in five singles maches en route to a sweep over Huntingdon.

Kylie VanTassel won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-1, while Lindsey Kerlin, Ally Gaines and Kirstie VanTassell all won 6-0, 6-0. and Kendyhl Luzier 6-0, 6-1.

The doubles teams of the VanTassels (8-2) and Gaines and Luzier (8-2) both won as well.

VILLA 5, ERIE 0

ERIE, Pa. – Villa was impressive in sweeping Erie High, 5-0.

Tara Thomas earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Ryleigh Valone was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles and Sara Barrett a 7-6, 6-4 victor at No. 3.

In doubles action, the Victors’ squad of Abby Consiglio and Anne Marie Prichard were 6-0, 6-1 winners at No. 1 doubles and Basil Bannister and Sofia Falvo 6-4, 6-1 winners at No. 2 doubles.
