Sept. 17, 2020 Tennis Recaps: Villa, Grove City earn wins

WARREN, Pa. –  Villa improved to 5-0 on the season with a 4-1 victory at Warren.

Ryleigh Vallone got it going for the Victors at No. 1 singles, beating Maddie Rodgers, 6-1, 6-1. Anna Poranski (6-1, 6-1) got a win at No. 2 singles for Villa, while Warren’s Sydney Govoni bested Villa’s Sara Barrett at No. 3, 6-4, 7-5.

The Villa No. 1 doubles team of Abby Consiglio and Anne Marie Prichard won 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Grace Teed and Mary McGovern edged Warren’s Jackie Peterson and Madalynn Perry, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6.

GROVE CITY 5, OIL CITY 0

            

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Mary Coulter (6-0, 6-0) and Macy Mattson (6-1, 6-0) earned victories at No.1 and 2 singles, respectively, to help Grove City to a 5-0 win over Oil City.

Abby Aument got a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles, while both doubles’ teams were also victorious for the Eagles.

DUBOIS 4, PUNXSUTAWNEY 3

DUBOIS, Pa. – Sweeping the doubles matches, DuBois rallied to beat visiting Punxsutawney, 4-3.

The Lady Beavers got doubles wins from Grace Askey and Steph Juarez (8-4), Rachel Kister and Olivia Reed (8-2) and Claire Shaffer, and Cassie Lanzoni (8-3) to secure the victory.

                          

DuBois also received a singles win from Reed (6-4, 6-1) at No. 3 singles.

Punxsutawney victories came from Chloe Presloid at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-1), Jadyn McMahon 6-3, 3-6, 10-8) at No. 2 singles, and Kendal Johnston (6-4, 7-5) at No. 4 singles.
