Sept. 15, 2020 Tennis Recaps: Villa wins showdown with Mercyhurst Prep

   

ERIE, Pa. – In a Region 2 tennis showdown, it was Villa that got the best of Mercyhurst Prep, 4-1.

The Victors won all three singles matches, including at No. 1, where Tara Thomas beat Alie DiNicola, 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 2, it was Ryleigh Vallone a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Angela Chardeen, and Anna Poranski bested Lauren Richmond 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.

Villa’s top doubles team, Abby Consiglio and Maggie Gallagher wont 6-0, 6-1 over Sophia Potalivo and Maggie Gallagher, and Mercyhurst Prep won the second doubles match , 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, as Lilli Lang and Catrabone won a battle over Grace Teed and Margaret McGovern.

            

CLEARFIELD TOPS TYRONE

CLEARFIELD, Pa. – Clearfield recorded singles victories in four of the five matches en route to a 5-2 win over Tyrone.

Lindsey Kerlin (6-2, 6-4), Ally Gaines (6-1, 6-0), Peyton Reese (8-6, 4-6, 6-2) and Kirstie VanTassel (6-4, 6-4) were all victorious.

The Bison doubles team of Lauryn Kitchen and Kendyl Luzier won 8-4.

Tyrone’s Victoria Reese won at No. 1 singles over Kylie VanTassel, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

BROCKWAY 5, PUNXSUTAWNEY 2

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Selena Buttery topped Chole Presloid 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Brockway earned a 5-2 win over Punxsutawney.

At No. 2 singles it was Brockway’s Jadyn McMahon over Morgan Pirow (6-1, 6-0), Taylor Rhed of Brockway won 6-4, 6-3 and at No. 4 Kendal Johnston was a 6-3, 6-0 victor.

The doubles’ teams of Buttery and Pirow (8-0), Hannah Zuccolotto and Rhed (8-2) and Macie Dixon and Emily Michal

WILMINGTON 5, OIL CITY 0

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Grace Hendrick, Mary Matyasovsky and Taylor Dlvgozima swept their singles matches as Wilmington beat Oil City.

Wilmington’s No. 1 doubles team of Anna McGinnis and Savannah Bailey won 6-1, 6-1 and their No. 2 team of Jenny Allison and Mary Boyd also was victorious by the same score.
