Reiter’s Walk-Off Sends St. Marys Softball Past Punxsy; Karns City Baseball Tops Ambridge

SOFTBALL

DISTRICT 9

ST. MARYS 2, PUNXSUTAWNEY 1

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Lindsey Reiter’s RBI line drive fielder’s choice capped a late St. Marys rally and lifted the Lady Dutch to a 2-1 win over Punxsutawney.

   

                  

St. Marys trailed 2-1 going into the seventh inning, but Shannon Kiser, Kendall Young, and Gianna Surra notched three straight singles the latter of which tied the game before Reiter’s walk-off winner.

Young was strong in the circle to get the win, allowing one run on three hits, walking one, and striking out 11.

Punxsutawney took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on Karli Young’s RBI single.

Ciara Toven took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out two, and walking two.

JOHNSONBURG 7, CLARION 4

                          

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Julia Jones drove in three runs and also got the complete game victory as Johnsonburg beat Clarion, 7-4.

Jones was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs and three RBIs. In the circle, only one of her runs was earned, as she allowed four hits, walked three, and struck out 10.

Also for Johnsonburg, Natalie Dunworth was 2-for-4 with two triples, an RBI, and a run scored, while Maria Casilio was 3-for-4 with three runs and Zoey Grunthaner was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Bri Forrest and Alicyn Burford drove in runs for Clarion.

               

Haylee Cratsley took the loss, allowing six earned runs on 13 hits, striking out three without issuing a walk.

KARNS CITY 16, CLARION-LIMESTONE 1

KARNS CITY, Pa. – Karns City collected 16 hits in a 16-1, 4-inning win over Clarion-Limestone.

For Karns City, Jess Dunn was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and four runs, while Lyrik Reed was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, and three runs, Haley Sherman was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Addison Burrows was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.

Burrows got the win, allowing one unearned run on five hits, striking out five, and walking three.

Jenna Dunn took the loss for C-L, allowing 14 runs (7 earned) in two innings.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 19, DUBOIS 9, 5 innings

PHILIPSBURG, Pa. – DuBois built a 7-0 lead after 1 ½ innings, but it was Philipsburg-Osceola that came away with a 19-9 win in five innings.

MyKenna Bryan went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBIs, and two runs for P-O, while Maddyx Hampton was 3-for-4 with four RBIs a walk, and a run, Emily Gutskey was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs and Payton Bennett was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a walk and three runs.

Ava Baronick belted a 3-run home run in the first inning for DuBois, while Lynx Lander also belted a 2-run home run in the first inning. Gabby Gulvas was 3-for-4 with a double and a run and Alexis Pfeufer was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

            

DISTRICT 10

FAIRVIEW 4, CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS 2
FAIRVIEW, Pa. – Gabi Ramm’s 2-run single proved to be the difference as Fairview topped Cambridge Springs, 4-2, in the season-opener for both teams.

Leading 2-1 with two outs and the bases loaded in the fifth, Ramm ripped the first pitch she saw into left field. Taylor Polach and Jocelyn Terella scored to push the Tigers’ lead to 4-1.

The Blue Devils had the tying run on base with one out in the seventh, but a double play ended the game.

The single was Ramm’s only hit of the game. Terella had a pair of hits and scored twice and Polach had a hit and scored two runs.

Cami Munson picked up the win allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits, with six walks and two strikeouts in six innings.

Hailee Rodgers started and threw two innings for the Blue Devils. She allowed one earned run on two hits, walked none and struck out five. Crawford took the loss allowing three earned runs on four hits, with two walks, and six strikeouts in four innings.

BASEBALL

DISTRICT 9

KARNS CITY 9, AMBRIDGE 7

BUTLER, Pa. – Karns City rallied from a 6-1 deficit to beat Ambridge and improve to 2-0 on the season.

A 6-run sixth inning propelled the Gremlins to the win.

Mallick Metcalfe was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Karns City offense, while Wyatt Fleming was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Michael Neff was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Fleming got the win in relief, going four innings and allowing one run on two hits, striking out seven and walking three.

Adam Fernandez was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for Ambridge.

Nick Thomas took the loss for Ambridge, allowing five runs (three earned) in his one inning of work.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA 21, DUBOIS 7, 6 innings

DUBOIS, Pa. – Philipsburg-Osceola scored in every inning, including seven runs in the fourth and six in the sixth en route to a 21-7, 6-inning win over DuBois.

Parker Lamb had a monster day at the plate for P-O, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, five RBIs, and four runs scored. Alex Knepp was 2-for-2 with a double, triple and four RBIs for the Mounties, while Jake DeSimone had two doubles and Denny Pretash drove in four runs.

Pretash got the win for P-O, going 3 ⅓ innings and allowing six runs on 10 hits.

Billy Gray had two RBIs for DuBois, while Aaron Andrulonis was 2-for-4 with two runs and Tyler Chamberlin was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Chamberlin took the loss, allowing seven runs in three innings on six hits, striking out three and walking five.

MONITEAU 4, JOHNSONBURG 4, (Game called after 10 innings due to darkness)

JOHNSONBURG, Pa. – Moniteau and Johnsonburg battled for 10 innings before darkness halted their game with the score tied 4-4.

Both teams scored two runs in the eighth inning after the game was tied 2-2 after seven innings.

Keagan Book was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, and two walks for Moniteau, while Brock Matthews was 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, while Ian Ross also drove in a run.

Dawson Cook went five innings on the mound, allowing two unearned runs on just one hit, striking out four, and walking one.

For Johnsonburg, Luke Zimmerman was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, while Derek Beimel also drove in a run.

Zimmerman went 4 ⅔ innings on the mound for the Rams, allowing one run on three hits, striking out five, and walking three.
