St. Marys Hurlers Toss Combined No-Hitter; Redbank’s Minich, C-L’s Smith Turn in Dominant Pitching Efforts in Wins; Suhan Powers Brookville Softball to Victory

EMPORIUM, Pa. – St. Marys’ Ben Paul and Dan Schutz combined on a no-hitter in a 9-1 win over Cameron County in the opening round of the Elk County Tournament.

Paul went six innings and allowed one unearned run, striking out nine and walking three. Schutz came on and got the final three outs, recording a strikeout in the process.

At the plate for St. Marys, Logan Mosier was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, as the Dutch scored six runs in the third inning.

Also for St. Marys, Lucas Bauer was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs, while Vinnie Lenze, Carter Price, Paul, and Tysen Beimel drove in one run each.

St. Marys collected 10 hits and took advantage of five Cameron County errors.

   

                  

Eastyn Solveson took the loss, allowing seven runs (two earned) in four innings on seven hits, striking out one and walking two.

St. Marys will play the winner of the Johnsonburg-Elk County Catholic game in the title game on Friday, while Cameron County will meet the loser in the consolation game.

REDBANK VALLEY 4, CLARION 0

BUTLER, Pa. – Tate Minich was dominant for Redbank Valley, firing a 1-hit shutout in a 4-0 win over Clarion at Michelle Krill Memorial Field at Historic Pullman Park.

Minich struck out 13 batters in the win and walked three, throwing 64 of his 103 pitches for strikes.

                          

The Bulldogs’ offense, meanwhile scored all four of its runs in the first inning. Errors allowed two runs to cross, Jaxon Huffman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another run and Peyton Rearick’s RBI single put a cap on the inning.

All four of the runs charged to Clarion’s Devon Lauer in the first inning were unearned. Lauer allowed five hits in his six innings of work, struck out three, and walked one.

Derek Smail had a single in the sixth inning for Clarion’s lone hit.

CLARION-LIMESTONE 1, MONITEAU 0, 9 innings

               

BUTLER, Pa. – Kohen Kemmer’s RBI single in the top of the ninth inning drove in the only run of the game in Clarion-Limestone’s 1-0, 9-inning win over Moniteau.

Kemmer brought in Jordan Hesdon, who had singled to start the inning.

Logan Lutz tossed 1 ⅔ innings of scoreless relief to get the win, backing a brilliant effort from Tommy Smith, who went 7 ⅓ innings before reaching his pitch limit. Smith allowed seven hits, struck out six and walked one.

Brayden Murray also had two hits for the Lions.

Connor Ealy had two hits for Moniteau.

Brock Matthews was the tough-luck losing pitcher, allowing one run in 8 ⅓ innings on seven hits, striking out seven, and walking one.

DUBOIS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 10, KANE 0, 6 innings

DUBOIS, Pa. – Carter Himes fired a 2-hitter and Carter Hickman and Blake Pisarcik both homered in DuBois Central Catholic’s 10-0, 6-inning win over Kane.

Himes struck out seven and walked one in his complete game victory.

Pisarcik and Hickman both had two hits and three RBIs each for DCC, which scored in every inning but the third.

            

Also for the Cardinals, Aiden Snowberger was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, while Brayden Fox was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, and Cartar Kosko was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Brock Wensel took the loss for Kane, allowing eight runs in 4 ⅔ innings on nine hits, striking out one and walking four.

BROOKVILLE 7, BROCKWAY 0

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Carson Weaver and Noah Shaffer combined on a 3-hit shutout as Brookville beat Brockway, 7-0.

Weaver started and went 5 ⅔ innings, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out seven. Shaffer tossed 1 ⅓ hitless innings and struck out three.

At the dish Weaver and Riley Smith had three hits each, while Shaffer, Hunter Greeley, Carter Kessler, and Sergio Sotillo had an RBI each.

Ezra Swanson took the loss for Brockway, allowing seven runs (five earned) in 4 ⅓ innings on nine hits, striking out five and walking two.

PORT ALLEGANY 14, GALETON 3, 6 innings

GALETON, Pa. – Levi Howard doubled and drove in three runs as Port Allegany earned a 14-3, 6-inning win over Galeton.

Port Allegany put up four runs in the first inning and six more in the sixth en route to the win.

Also for the Gators, Nick Wilfong was 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Aiden Bliss was 2-for-3 with three runs, Blaine Moses was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Drew Evens was 2-for-3 with an RBi and three runs and Noah Archer was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Jacob Causer got the win, allowing three runs (two earned) in four innings on four hits, walking four and striking out two. Wilfong tossed two scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts.

Ayden Whipple was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Galeton. Levi Evans took the loss, allowing 11 runs (six earned) in five innings on 11 hits, striking out three and walking four.

SOFTBALL

BROOKVILLE 12, BROCKWAY 2

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Brookville scored 10 of its runs over the final three innings in a 12-2 win over Brockway.

Cadence Suhan belted a 2-run home run, part of a balanced Brookville offensive attack. Tori McKinney was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs, while Elisabeth Delancey was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Aubre Eble was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Jordan Daisley was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run. Gabby West also had a triple and an RBI.

Alyssa Tollini got the win, scattering 11 hits in seven innings, striking out seven, and walking one.

Rheanna Spinda and Gabby Hertel each had an RBI for Brookville.

Hertel took the loss, allowing 12 runs (three earned) in seven innings on 14 hits, striking out four and walking two.

MONITEAU 11, CLARION-LIMESTONE 1, 5 innings

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Emily Staab doubled, homered, and drove in three runs as Moniteau scored eight runs in the fourth inning in an 11-1, 5-inning win over Clarion-Limestone.

Emma Covert got the win, allowing one run and scattering eight hits, striking out six and walking four.

Staab finished 3-for-3 and also scored three runs, while Brianna Rottman was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and three runs, Mariska Shunk was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, Covert was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Lily Staab was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Abby Knapp was 3-for-3 with an RBI for C-L.

Jenna Dunn took the loss, allowing 11 runs (seven earned) in four innings on 10 hits while striking out four.

CLEARFIELD 8, HUNTINGDON 3

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Ruby Singleton was 3-for-4 with three RBIs as Clearfield earned an 8-3 win over Huntingdon.

Clearfield pulled away with four runs in the sixth to take an 8-1 lead.

Alaina Fedder got the complete game win for the Bison, allowing three runs on three hits, striking out six, and walking three.

Eve Siegel doubled and had a pair of RBIs for Clearfield, while Haley Billotte was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and a run and Madi McBride was 3-for-4 with two runs.

Alivia Edwards drove in a pair of runs for Huntingdon.

Jordyn Patrick took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out three, and walking five.
