Prep, McDowell Sweep D10 Swimming Team Titles; Four Records Fall

GENEVA, OHIO – Cathedral Prep and McDowell swept the District 10 swimming championships at the S.P.I.R.E. Institute, while a total of four individual records were broken.

The Prep girls finished with 374 points in Class 2A (General McLane was second with 304), while the Prep boys had 440 points (Fairview was second at 267). In 3A, the McDowell girls had 415 points (Meadville was second at 322), while the McDowell boys had 572 points (Allderdice had 295 to finish second).

In addition, Cathedral Prep’s Haley Palmer (2A Girls), Meadville’s Maura Bloss (3A girls), Sharon’s Mark Cattron (2A boys) and Allderdice’s Liam Friedlander (3A boys) won the inagural D10 Outstanding Performers awards.

The records broken were all on the Class 2A boys’ side, beginning with Cathedral Prep’s Matthew Hindman with a time of 58.39 (the previous record was 58.81), while the Ramberls 200 medley relay team of Hindman, Mitchell Bradford, Aidan Levis and Colin Troutman set a record of 1:35.27, beating the previous record of 1:35.76.

Cattron, meanwhile, set a new standard in the 200 free with a mark of 1:42.09, breaking the previous mark of 1:42.34.

Warren’s Hugh Harrison also won the 200 individual medley with a record time of 153:38, which was set by Bradford last year at 1:54.67.

The PIAA championships begin Wednesday, March 15 at Bucknell University.
