MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The beginning of winter sports practices, which are slated for this Friday, Nov. 20, will proceed as scheduled, according to the PIAA.
The governing body of high school athletics in Pennsylvania reaffirmed that stance at their board meeting on Wednesday.
The PIAA did say, however, that they are ‘proceeding with an abundance of caution,’ per the committee meeting minutes.
Concerns have emerged over the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state, as Pennsylvania had 6,339 new positive cases on Wednesday.
Also, the PIAA announced the schedule for the PIAA football championships. It is as follows: Friday – 1A (11 a.m.), 3A (3:30 p.m.), 5A (8 p.m.); Saturday – 2A (11 a.m.), 4A (3:30 p.m.), 6A (8 p.m.).
The PIAA’s next meeting will take place on Dec. 9, coming prior to the start of competition in winter sports across the state. It has already released guidelines for return to competition for the season.
