PIAA Releases Football Playoff Brackets for 2020 Season

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The PIAA released its updated football playoff brackets Wednesday following the PIAA Board of Directors meeting.

Class 1A/2A BracketsClass 3A/4A BracketsClass 5A/6A Brackets

In Class 1A, District 9’s champion will enter the bracket the weekend of Nov. 6-7 and play District 5’s champion. The winner of that game will then play the District 10 champion the following week, either Nov. 13-14, in the quarterfinals. The semifinals will be held either Nov. 20 or Nov. 21 with the championship game to take place Nov. 27.

The Class 2A bracket shows the District 9 champion and the District 10 champion entering the bracket the weekend of Nov. 6-7 playing each other. The winner of that game will then play the sub-regional champion from District 5/8 Nov. 13 or 14. The semifinals will be either Nov. 20 or 21 with the championship game taking place Nov. 28.

In Class 3A, District 9’s champion will be determined in a sub-regional with District 5 and will play the District 6 champion the weekend of Nov. 6-7. The winner of that game will then take on the District 10 champion in the quarterfinals the weekend of Nov. 13-14 with the semifinals taking place on either Nov. 20 or 21. The championship game is set for Nov. 27.

            

Class 4A shows District 9’s champion being determined in a subregional with Districts 6 and 8. That champion will take on the District 10 champion the weekend of Nov. 6-7 with the winner playing in the quarterfinals Nov. 13 or 14 against the winner of a game between the District 4 champion and the District 1 champion. The semifinals are the weekend of Nov. 20-21 with the championship game set for Nov. 28.

In Class 5A, the District 10 champion will be in the “eastern” half of the bracket and will be determined in a subregional with Districts 6 and 8. That champion will play the District champion of a subregional between District 2 and District 11 the weekend of Nov. 13-14 in the quarterfinals with the winner of the quarterfinals came moving into the semifinals Nov. 20-21 against the District 1 champion. The championship game will take place Nov. 27. There are no Class 5A teams in District 9.

Class 6A shows the District 10 champion being determined in a subregional with District 8. That champion will play in the quarterfinals Nov. 13 or 14 against the WPIAL champion. The semifinals will be either Nov. 20 or 21 with the championship game set for Nov. 28.

District 10 currently is slated to end its regular season Oct. 16 and 17, while District 9 is set to end its regular season Oct. 23. Playoff formats for both districts are expected soon now that the PIAA has set a bracket. Teams that do not qualify for the postseason are expected to be able to continue their seasons while teams in the postseason are playing in the postseason tournaments.
