Parrish, Freyermuth Help Grove City to Mercer County Cup Win Over Thiel

GROVE CITY, Pa. – West Middlesex graduate Clayton Parrish scored two rushing touchdowns as Grove City beat Thiel to capture the Mercer County Cup, 66-6.

Cochranton graduate Curtis Freyermuth also had an interception for Grove City, which outgained Thiel 497-146.

BEAVER, Pa. – A football team’s mid-October won-lost record is not nearly as important as what it comes mid-November. Unless the former serves as a motivating means to an end ultimately leading to the latter.

The Westminster College football team captured its 5th consecutive Presidents’ Athletic Conference contest with a 49-0 win over Geneva College on Saturday afternoon.

Farrell grad Brice Butler had an interception for Westminster.

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Quarterback Jacob Pugh (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) totaled four touchdowns and Troy Volpatti (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Raymond Holmes (Verona, Pa./Serra Catholic) both eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground as the Washington & Jefferson football team rolled to a 56-0 victory over Waynesburg in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game at John F. Wiley Stadium in Greene County.

W&J finishes the regular season at 8-2 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Waynesburg, losers of its final three games, finish at 4-6 overall and 3-5 in the PAC.

NO. 19 CARNEGIE MELLON 20, CASE WESTERN 7

CLEVELAND – The Carnegie Mellon University football team traveled to Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday night to play in the 36th Annual Academic Bowl against longtime rival Case Western Reserve University.

The Tartans left Cleveland with a 20-7 victory in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) showdown to complete their undefeated regular season.
