Oct. 6, 2020 VB Recaps: Cochranton Tops Saegertown in Battle of State-Ranked Teams; RV Gets Win

REDBANK VALLEY 3, CLARION-LIMESTONE 0

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Thanks to 10 kills from Montana Hetrick and eight from Alivia Huffman Redbank Valley swept to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-16) at Clarion-Limestone.

Ryley Pago added six kills for the Lady Bulldogs with Brooke Holben running the offense with 21 set assists. Brynn Rearick had 10 digs and three aces and Caylen Rearick added nine digs and five aces.

Ruby Smith and Brooke Kessler each had five kills for C-L with Janelle Pezzuti added five digs and Kendall Dunn had 12 set assists, four digs and three aces.

            

COCHRANTON 3, SAEGERTOWN 1

COCHRANTON, Pa. – In a battle of two state-ranked teams, Cochranton overcame a slow start to beat Saegertown, 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-14).

Cochranton stats were unavailable, but Brittany Houck led Saegertown with 15 kills and 22 digs while Averie Braymer added 10 kills. Amber Costello paced the defense with 27 digs, and Ava Jones ran the offense with 41 set assists while adding five digs.

Cochranton came into the match ranked sixth in the state in Class 1A while Saegertown was ranked third.

MONITEAU 3, VENANGO CATHOLIC 0

                          

WEST SUNBURY, Pa. – Ashlyn Pry had 10 kills and four aces to lead a 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-10) Moniteau sweep of visiting Venango Catholic.

Logan Barnhart ran the offense for the Lady Warriors with 20 set assists while adding five aces and three kills, Ciona dePrano had five kills and an ace and Emily Zang recorded six aces.

NORTH CLARION 3, FOREST AREA 0

FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Emily Aites had 11 kills to help North Clarion to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-13) win over visiting Forest Area.

Sarah Aaron ran the offense for the She-Wolves with 22 set assists, while the defense was paced by the trio of Alana Brooks (16 digs), Mackenzie Lupole (13 digs) and Amya Green (11 digs).

MAPLEWOOD 3, OIL CITY 0

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Chloe Leech had 11 kills to help Maplewood roll past visiting Oil City, 3-0 (25-11, 25-5, 25-6).

Sadie Thomas added six kills for the Tigers with Madison Vergona adding four kills. Bailey Varndell ran the offense with 16 set assists.

Maplewood’s service game was the difference with the Tigers recording 23 team service aces in the match.

CLARION 3, A-C VALLEY 0

                        

CLARION, Pa. – Aryana Girvan and Korrin Burns combined for 28 kills, as Clarion blew past rival A-C Valley, 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-8) at Clarion High School.

Burns led the Lady Cats with 17 kills while adding seven digs and two aces and Girvan had 11 kills.

Brenna Campbell ran the offense for Clarion with 30 set assists and chipped in four digs with Erica Selfridge pacing the defense with 14 digs while adding six kills. Jordan Best also had six digs.

Andrea Meals had three kills and five digs for A-C Valley which also got six digs, a kill, an ace and a set assist from Rachel Cullen.

COUDERSPORT 3, BRADFORD 0

         

COUDERSPORT, Pa. – Paige Watson had 11 kills, three blocks, two digs, two aces and a set assist to help Coudersport vanquish visiting Bradford, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-17).

Liz Frame had seven set assists, six digs and five aces for the Lady Falcons who also got seven set assists, seven digs and seven aces from Mikayla Kavounas.

Alix Ordiway paced Bradford with five kills and a block. Alex Asp had four kills and three blocks and Jessica Fox 12 set assists and two blocks.

ROCKY GROVE 3, YOUNGSVILLE 1

YOUNGSVILLE, Pa. – Kennedi Winslow had 11 kills and three aces to help visiting Rocky Grove to a 3-1 (25-10, 17-25, 25-17, 25-16) win at Youngsville.

Abby Williams chipped in six kills and eight aces for the Orioles who also got five digs ans five aces from Courtnee Clark and 12 digs from Devin Rhoads.

Andrea Sveda paced Youngsville with 14 kills, three blocks and two digs. Jena Wilson ran the offense with 25 set assists while adding five digs and three aces.

FORT LEBOEUF 3, GENERAL MCLANE 0

WATERFORD, Pa. – Anna Bayer and Lauren Dahn combined for 14 kills and 14 digs to help Fort LeBoeuf run its record to 13-1 on the year with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-22) win over visiting General McLane.

Bayer had seven kills and eight digs and Dahn seven kills and six digs in the victory that also saw Audrey Friedman record seven kills. Mackenzie Kulik (15 set assists) and Kerringten Wasiulewski (13 set assists) ran the offense for the Bison with Jordan Popowski (eight digs) and Katie Proctor (seven digs) contributing to a strong defensive effort.

Lilli Mock paced General McLane with 13 kills and five digs with Kayle Siedel adding six kills and 18 digs. Brooke Simmons also had 10 digs for the Lancers, while Jenna Kulka ran the offense with 15 set assists.

CONNEAUT (PA) 3, WARREN 0

LINESVILLE, Pa. – Conneaut (Pa.) swept visiting Warren, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-20).

While Conneaut stats weren’t available, Hannah Shattuck led Warren with eight kills, 10 digs and three aces. Katie Madigan added nine digs and Halee Mineweaser 17 set assists and three digs.

KANE 3, ST. MARYS 0

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Visiting Kane got 24 set assists from Emma Ely in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-20) win at St. Marys.

Sarri Swanson led the Lady Wolves offense with 11 kills and four blocks, Rainee Wright and Cora Jekielek each added five kills, Myka Costanzo had four aces and four digs and Ronnie Costanzo chipped in four digs.

Lindsey Reiter served well for the Lady Dutch with 14 service points.

OTTO-ELDRED 3, GALETON 2

DUKE CENTER, Pa. – Reilly Raught had 15 kills, eight aces, eight digs and three blocks to help Otto-Eldred earn a hard-fought, 3-2 (25-23, 25-7, 20-25, 24-26, 15-5), victory over visiting Galeton.

Brianna Silvis added eight kills, six digs and three blocks for the Lady Terrors who also got eight kills and eight digs from Haley Cousins, seven aces, two digs and three kills from Morgan Dalton and 25 set assists and two kills from Emmalee Sheeler.

Olivia Rohrbaugh paced Galeton with 10 kills, six digs, a block, an ace and a set assist. Alli Macensky had five kills, four digs and a block. The block was the 100th in the sophomore’s career, while Lauren Sauley also had five kills, nine digs and five set assists. Makenna Shuemaker added 13 set assists, 14 digs, two aces and three kills and Mikayla Schott had 10 digs, four aces and a kill for the Lady Tigers.

SLIPPERY ROCK 3, SHARON 0

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Tiffany Madison had seven kills, nine digs and four blocks to help Slippery Rock top visiting Sharon, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-11).

Makenna Shaner adeed six kills and three aces for Slippery Rock, Klara Wilson had 10 digs and four aces and Virginia Recchia ran the offense with 25 set assists.

NORTHERN POTTER 3, AUSTIN 0

AUSTIN, Pa. – Abbie Cady had four kills, eight aces, six digs and a block to lead Northern Potter to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-15) win at Austin.

Faith Zdrojewski added nine set assists, two kills, four digs and five aces for the Lady Panthers with Megan Hyde chipped in six digs and four kills and Courtney Martin 12 digs, a kill and a set assist.

Kendra Valenti had two kills and three aces for Austin with Marah Fowler adding five set assists.

DUBOIS 3, BROOKVILLE 0

DUBOIS, Pa. – Bella Gregory had 10 kills to help DuBois beat visiting Brookville 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-15).

Taylor Smith added four kills and three blocks with Eden Galiczynski running the offense with 26 assists.

KEYSTONE 3, UNION 0

RIMERSBURG, Pa. – Leah Exley had seven kills, five blocks and four aces to lead visiting Keystone to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-23) win over Union.

Natalie Bowser had seven blocks for the Lady Panthers and Alexandria Johnston added 11 set assists and two aces.

Hailey Kriebel and Drew Davis each had six kills for Union with Dominika Logue adding two kills, two aces and 13 digs. Morgan Cumberland ran the offense with 20 set assists.

CRANBERRY 3, KARNS CITY 0

SENECA, Pa. – Ava Ferringer had 16 kills and seven blocks to lead Cranberry to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-15) win over visiting Karns City.

Sara Allaman ran the offense for the Berries with 23 set assists and added six aces. Maria Anderson chipped in seven kills and two blocks.

Ashley Fox had 16 digs, a kill and an ace for Karns City. Morgan Smith had eight kills, two aces and a block, and Rosalie Carden had five kills, seven set assists, an ace and a dig.

CAMERON COUNTY 3, PORT ALLEGANY 0

EMPORIUM, Pa. – Hailey Hilfiger and Kaelee Bresslin combined for 17 kills to lead Cameron County to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-14) win over visiting Port Allegany.

Hilfiger had nine kills and added two blocks, while Bresslin had eight kills and 14 digs.

Reggie Goodrow ran the offense with 28 set assists, and Morgan Lorenzo chipped in with six kills and nine digs.

Shannon Curfman led Port Allegany with five kills, five blocks and two aces. Madeline Smith added four kills, 12 digs, three aces. Jade Evens chipped four kills and 14 digs. Marah Rush ran the offense with 15 set assists and 13 digs.

SHEFFIELD 3, CURWENSVILLE 0

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Emily Leichtenberger had eight kills, zero hitting errors and 12 digs to lead Sheffield to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-17)

Lynzie Grubbs added six kills for the Lady Wolverines with Annabel Sheldon leading the defense with 18 digs. Kadence Steffan ran the offense with 20 set assists.

GIRARD 3, ERIE FIRST CHRISTIAN 1

ERIE, Pa. – Kayla Sharman and Taylor Williams combined for 13 kills to lead visiting Girard to a 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-11) win over Erie First Christian.

Sharman had seven kills with Williams adding six kills. Kacie Dunn also had five kills for the Lady Yellow Jackets, while Ashlynn Fiolek added six kills and Courtney McDonald 13 digs and six aces. Tori Williams (14 set assists) and Chloe Simmons (eight set assists) ran the offense.

CORRY 3, IROQUOIS 0

ERIE, Pa. – Rachel Brady recorded nine kills to lead Corry to a 3-0 (25-5, 25-10, 25-8) win at Iroquois.

Allison Zackiewicz ran the offense with 20 set assists while adding seven aces and nine digs. Taylor Elchynski also helped the defense with seven digs.

OSWAYO VALLEY 3, SMETHPORT 0

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. – Jaydn Brabham continued her strong performance this season with 25 kills and 13 digs to lead Oswayo Valley to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-16) win at Smethport.

Macy West added 10 kills and three digs for the Green Wave, and Johanna Dickerson ran the offense with 33 set assist while adding seven digs, three blocks, two kills and two aces.

Baylee Fitzsimmons led Smethport with 10 digs with Dani Nelson adding six digs and Madi Faes six digs, five set assists and two aces.
