Oct. 3, 2022 Soccer: ECC, Bradford, Fairview Girls Get Big Wins; Brockway, KC Boys Triumph

CLARION, Pa. – Hat tricks from Seanna VanAlstine and Rylie Belsole helped Elk County Catholic win a 9-4 shootout at Clarion.

Rewatch the match.

All three of VanAlstine’s goals came after halftime to help the Lady Crusaders expand on a 4-1 lead at the break while Belsole got the scoring started for ECC in the second minute before adding a goal with about 7:30 to play in the first half and then another late in the second half.

Belsole’s goal late in the opening half came off an assist from Sami Straub and concluded a three-goal run for the Lady Crusaders in a span of just under seven minutes.

Straub basically got the run started when her throw-in hit off the head of Clarion defender Mercedes Cunningham and got past keeper Chesney Boggess to break a 1-all tie with around 11:30 to play in the first half.

Elizabeth Schmidt then gave ECC a two-goal advantage with a tally with 7:30 to play before Belsole’s second goal of the half with 4:44 left in the half made it 4-1.

It was only 4-1 because of the play of ECC keeper Allison Geci who made at least three top-level saves on golden Clarion opportunities in the opening half allowing only JJ Wilson to beat her just under 14 minutes into to half.

Geci, who gave up three goals before being given the rest of the night off with just under 10 minutes left and her team up 9-3 along with VanAlstine were named Co-Allegheny Grille of Foxburg Players of the Game. The duo talked about the victory.

Straub added a second-half goal for ECC where both her and VanAlstine were on the doorstep before beating backup keep Maddy Baker, who replaced an injured Boggess at halftime. The goal was originally credited to VanAlstine, but she made sure to credit Straub for the tally.

Wilson had the hat trick for Clarion with Lexi Coull also adding a tally for the Lady Cats.
