Oct. 22 D9/10 Football: Elk County Catholic Tops Sheffield; Kennedy Catholic, General McLane Triumph

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Noah Cherry ran for 138 yards and four touchdowns and also had a 42-yard passing touchdown as Elk County Catholic raced to a 55-8 win over Sheffield.

Elk County Catholic led 41-0 at halftime.

Cherry scored on runs of 47, 20, 8, and 10 yards and also connected with Joe Tettis for the passing touchdown.

Charlie Geci (9 yards) and Ben Reynolds (8 yards) also had rushing touchdowns in the first half for the Crusaders, with Reynolds, who finished with 90 yards on the ground, capping the scoring with a 53-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Frankie Smith had a pair of interceptions on defense for ECC.

            

Colby Barr threw a fourth-quarter touchdown pass of 11 yards to Jeremiah Richardson for Sheffield. Barr had 47 yards passing, while Gage Mott-Macalush had 37 yards rushing for the Wolverines.

KENNEDY CATHOLIC 41, SAEGERTOWN 27

HERMITAGE, Pa. – Simeir Wade accounted for almost 400 yards of total offense and six touchdowns as Kennedy Catholic earned a 41-27 win over Saegertown.

The Golden Eagles went ahead 34-14 in the third quarter on Wade’s touchdown pass to Jermaine Dunlap.

Damian Harrison got the Golden Eagles on the board with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Wade but had to leave the game due to injury, sending Wade to quarterback.

                          

Wade had a pair of rushing touchdowns in the first half to help Kennedy to a 20-14 lead, while Hank Shaffer had a kickoff return for a touchdown in the first half for Saegertown and Sully Zirkle a 6-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt Burchill.

Wade scored on a 38-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for the Golden Eagles and connected with Dunlap on a 3-yard touchdown pass before Zirkle gave the Panthers their second rushing kickoff return touchdown of the game.

Wade finished with 190 yards rushing, 80 yards receiving, and 113 yards passing.

GENERAL MCLANE 35, GIRARD 20

GIRARD, Pa. – General McLane built a 28-7 halftime lead on its way to clinching the Region 5 title with a 35-20 win over Girard.

The win was the eighth in a row for the Lancers since a season-opening loss to Slippery Rock.

Kyle Birkmire and Dylan Sheeder accounted for two touchdowns each, with Sheeder’s 14-yard toss to Birkmire in the third quarter making it 35-7.

Gabe Messmer threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Gunner Bax to tie the game in the first quarter, but Owen Martin responded with an 11-yard touchdown run to start the 28-0 GM run.

Landon Laskey also added a rushing touchdown for the Lancers.
